Promoting #music through #gaming is much more than an experimental trend. Video games are facilitating the resurgence of older songs (and premiering newer ones) by introducing them to new and young #audiences. Nate Nanzer of Epic Games says, “When we bring artists into Fortnite, we see an effect outside of Fortnite,” supporting the fact that some #songs and #artists actually re-enter streaming services top charts after being heard in video games. The rise of #musicstreaming #platforms has inundated the market with new #content daily, so artists are continuing to turn to games as a strategic focus due to intensified competition in the industry.

New Post: George R.R. Martin wasn’t involved in ‘Elden Ring’ expansion ‘Shadow Of The Erdtree’ - https://lnkd.in/gt_GcD_e - It has been confirmed that Game Of Thrones author George R.R. Martin did not contribute any new ideas to Elden Ring expansion Shadow Of The Erdtree. READ MORE: ‘Elden Ring’ review: Miyazaki’s masterpiece exceeds every expectation Martin assisted with “a bit of worldbuilding” for Elden Ring, after being contacted by FromSoftware, helping to create “the backstory and history” for the title despite not being a huge fan of video games. The “offer was just too exciting to refuse,” he explained. Developers wanted “a deep, dark, resonant world to serve as a foundation for the game they planned to create,” which Martin created before it was “handed off to my new friends in Japan, and they took it from there.” In a new interview with Famitsu , game director Hidetaka Miyazaki revealed that Martin was not involved in the creation of upcoming expansion Shadow Of The Erdtree. “Martin’s involvement is the same as in the main title. The world and story of the DLC was inspired by the mythology that he penned just as in the main title, and was created thus. To be more precise, what was created this time is part of what was created from the inspiration we took from his mythology for the main title. So, there was no additional writing done specifically for the DLC,” he explained. Shadow Of The Erdtree is set for release June 21 with FromSoftware sharing a new gameplay trailer earlier this week. “Guided by Empryean Miquella, players are beckoned to the Land of Shadow, a place obscured by the Erdtree where the goddess Marika first set foot,” reads the official description. “In these strange new lands, players discover the dark secrets of the world as they meet others who follow in Miquella’s footsteps with ulterior motives.” Miyazaki also teased a sequel to Elden Ring. “We don’t want to discourage the possibilities for that. There might be more ideas in the future,” he said. In other news, The Word Alive have re-recorded their 2018 League Of Legends anthem ‘Rise’ to celebrate its fifth anniversary. Check out ‘Rise (Redux)’ here. The post George R.R. Music + Gaming = As the gaming industry keeps pushing the boundaries of immersive experiences, music and sound design have become more important than ever. Music doesn't just play along with the visuals; it amps up the whole gaming vibe, creating atmospheres that transport players to new worlds. For “Dystopia"— I set dark guitars, a live ominous choir and industrial percussion against scenes of a world reminiscent of a few top-tier video games you may have played yourself. For added vibe, I added the sounds of distant gunfire, explosions, air sirens and soft rippling waves to set the tone and immerse the viewer into this apocalyptic world. 💥💣💥 (Oh yeah — sound design is an added service I provide to my clients when they want to elevate their productions a few notches up.) Knowing how to create sonic atmospheres can help elevate your story’s production. Let’s set the atmosphere for your next production together. Back in the day, Hotel Costes and Cafe del Mar proved how valuable music can be as a brand pillar. Music is more effective, flexible, and affordable than many other elements of the sensorial guest experience (interior design, lighting, F&B consultants, scent, et cetera). And today, it's far, far easier for hotels to utilize music thoughtfully, yet few do it well. As Hospitality Daily mentions, hotels are a natural platform for culture, benefitting both the brand and guests. So why do so few hotels have fantastic music? Like, multiple shazaams per visit good?
Music has long been a part of games, but artists—from Gen X stalwart Metallica and pop star Lady Gaga to rapper Big Sean and indie act Weyes Blood—have been doubling down on the medium in recent years, taking advantage of modern tactics for reaching the industry’s massive youth-oriented user base. Artists are signing deals with game companies to debut new songs through interactive events and as background music for games themselves, in some cases weeks before those tracks are released on the likes of Spotify. Artists are also selling virtual goods featuring their likenesses and music for players’ avatars, and they are hiring developers to build persistent in-game worlds where their tunes—new and old—can be heard around the clock. Many are gamers themselves, parents of gamers or both. My latest story, with Anne Steele, for the The Wall Street Journal

During lockdowns most turned to Spotify and TikTok to find new music and artists. Now after licensing disputes Artists and Record companies are diving into new media. This great piece from Sarah Needleman discusses the ever-evolving music industry and how pivoting to new platforms pays dividends. You can read how Fortnite is becoming the new "meta" in music streaming and consumption here: https://lnkd.in/g9qg7KCs

Interesting article from The Wall Street Journal's Sarah E. Needleman and Anne Steele. I agree with their thesis here; gaming is one of the most impactful virtual arenas that an artist can tap into to build meaningful fan bases in. In fact, Deloitte's 2022 Digital Media Trends survey found that Gen-Z gamers in particular have a strong relationship with music—with music they hear in games, discover while watching game streamers, share with other players, and listen to while gaming. Indeed, the report data suggests that 42% of Gen Z gamers listen to other music while gaming, and 34% hear music in a game and then look it up online to stream or buy. Additionally, almost a quarter wish they could purchase music they hear in a game or be able to add it to a playlist, and nearly as many share music recommendations with other people gaming online. So, as labels and publishers grapple with their future in TikTok, gaming's importance in driving fandom and music discovery will only be heightened because the music industry doesn't have another platform as potent as TikTok when it comes to diving discovery and consumption of both new and catalog music. So, have you played a game and found a new tune or rediscovered an old track you forgot how much you loved? 👀 This is an intersting one. Gaming music (both in-game and inspired by the game) is a huge corner of culture - League of Legends’ Spotify artist channel has over 17m monthly listeners (that’s about a third of what Beyoncé gets). 📦Of course, it’s very Nintendo to pack its offering into a dedicated app rt launching and owning a channel on an established streamer. Keep it in-house. ⏰💃🏼Combined with the Alarm, this is another step towards offering branded ambience in people’s lifestyles (also think of Pikmin and Pokemon joining your walks, and Pokemon again tag-teaming your sleep habits). 🕹️I also saw A LOT of sound-centred gaming mechanics and gamified music creation experiences at #Gamescom2024. That‘s especially interesting for cosy gaming, where indie titles coming down the pipeline are gonna unlock another restorative creativity layer.
