This morning I'm making my final preparations for the Pan-Mass Challenge, loading up the car and will be getting on a bus in Wellesley, Massachusetts to go on out to the Sturbridge Host Hotel to check in, grab my gear, and wait for the morning. Saturday @ 5:15 I'll line up at the start line in the dark and humid air (and maybe a little rain) with thousands of other riders, all doing their part to raise money to beat cancer! We'll start off on our journey to Bourne, Massachusetts...about 110 miles away (it'll take me well into the afternoon to get there...it's a ride...not a race for me). I will think a lot along the way (with a ton of tears too) about the people who you've asked me to think about...people that have lost their battles this year or in the past, people that are still fighting a battle against the scourge of cancer, and people who thankfully have beaten that nasty diagnosis! Riding past little kids with bald heads telling us they're alive because of us...there isn't a person on the planet who doesn't break down when they hear it...all I'm doing is riding...think about what they have gone through! After a massage, lots of food and a little sleep at Mass Maritime Academy in Bourne, we'll start back out on Sunday morning for the next 80 or so miles over the Bourne bridge...through the entirety of Cape Cod, the rolling hills of Truro and the dunes of Provincetown, we will finish at the Provincetown Monument...another year down, and a lot more money raised. Since it began in 1985, the Pan Mass Challenge has raised over a BILLION dollars for research, treatment and care of patients at the Dana Farber Cancer Center. I made a commitment to raise $6,000 dollars this year and you already helped me to blow that out of the water. You are all truly part of the #oneinabillion effort! If you've not donated yet, please consider it...every dollar truly does help us fight this awful diagnosis. Many of you know how lucky Ilana has been this year because of the advances in detection, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer, and it's because of places like Dana Farber that for some, a cancer diagnosis can truly just be "a nuisance" even if it's one of the scariest words a doctor can ever say to you! For the folks riding, for the folks donating, and for the folks fighting...each pedal stroke we make gets us #closerbythemile https://lnkd.in/euBn2rDt
