Cacio e Pepe Pasta has 5 ingredients (water, salt, pepper, pasta, pecorino cheese). Talk about simple...
And yet this Roman dish one of the most classic of all pasta recipes. However, for something for something so simple it's amazing how easy it is to completely mess it up.
Cacio e Pepe done right creates a luxurious, creamy sauce. But, if the cheese ever exceeds 140 degrees, it turns into a gooey mess...
So what's the lesson here:
Simple solutions are often the best:
Don't overcomplicate things, whether they be in new business ideas you may have or in strategies to execute. You can't do everything, so start with simple, well-tested strategies and build your foundation from there.
Simple isn't necessarily easy:
It takes a lot of practice to master even the simplest pasta dishes. In the same way, the entrepreneurial skills or strategies you’re developing will likely face failure until you practice and refine them. But once you've mastered them, it becomes much easier to reproduce your success consistently. I'd rather do five simple things really well than ten complicated things only occasionally well.
Find opportunities to efficiently transfer your skills and strategies:
Once you master Cacio e Pepe, you can easily pivot to making one of it's sister Roman pastas (Carbonara or alla Gricia) because the techniques and strategies are highly transferrable. So in your business, think about how, after you master one thing, you can find immediately adjacent areas to efficiently expand rather than starting from scratch somewhere else...
So my questions:
1. Have you found success in simplicity, or do you thrive when tackling more complex challenges?
2. What is your favorite of the 4 classic Roman pastas? (Cacio e Pepe, Carbonara, alla Gricia, Amatriciana) and have you ever tried making them yourself? What has your experience been?
