- Blanc de Noirs, just a trend? Why am I seriously making a Blanc de Noirs - What if - rather than uprooting, top-crafting, planting according to ever-changing consumer demands - we looked at new ways of enhancing what already exists? What if we were to shake up our own habits a little and think about the benefits of making Blanc de Noirs? _Short Term versus Long Term Blanc de Noirs meets the consumer demand for white wines, without impacting the vineyards. It is short term (consumption trends) versus long term (viticulture). At Caaaaaaat Collection, wines are hand-crafted, coming from vineyards that can last a century. It would be a hasty move to top-craft or uproot vines just to answer consumption trends. _Lower Alcohol Levels Blanc de Noirs can respond to consumer demand for lighter style wines, which also offers new flavours and textures. Many Blanc de Noirs wines tend to have lower alcohol levels, due to the fact it’s harvested earlier in order to avoid colouring the juice. _Consumer Experience Blanc de Noirs offers wine enthusiasts a distinct experience, that differs from traditional white or red wines. This type of wine provides an innovative choice that stands out from usual wines, appealing to those looking to explore new tastes within the white wine category. And you, what’s your take on Blanc de Noirs? ------- I am Chris, seriously provocative agent and co-author of living wines. Here, I talk about wine and entrepreneurship. From the vineyard to business, I’m your go-to for insights on living wines and natural winemaking. So, let’s talk! 🥂

🌍 New Agricompet Publication 📢 Three members of the Italian team from the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, Giulia Gastaldello, Isabel Schäufele-Elbers and Guenter Schamel, have just published a new article entitled "Factors influencing wine ratings in an online wine community: The case of Trentino-Alto Adige" in the Journal of Wine Economics, Cambridge University Press. The study is part of our WP2 research (Wine and Geographical Reputation Indicators). It examines the factors that influence consumer evaluations of wine (i.e., perceived quality) at different price points using a large dataset of wines from Trentino-Alto Adige in Northern Italy, and controlling for the community effect. If further analyses how the same factors impact wine prices. 🔍 Key Findings: ➖ Factors influencing consumer ratings appear to vary by price range. ➖ The community effect seems relevant up to 26€ bottles, while it becomes insignificant for more expensive wines. ➖ While the GeographicaI Indications (GI) signal determines a significant price premium at lower price points, it does not translate into a grater perceived quality after consumption. ➖ Several co-op brands receive significantly higher ratings at different price points, questioning the long-standing association between co-ops and lower quality wine. 🔑 Keywords: consumer ratings, wine, price, Italy, hedonic quantile regression (HQR) 📄 Read the full article here: DOI: https://lnkd.in/eCwk8mXh

Thanks for such a fun interview Rochelle Bilow! My favorite excerpt: "Mention the word 'sulfites' within a 50-mile radius of a natural winemaker or industry professional, and you’ll hear their groans…but probably not for the reason you expect. Many drinkers choose natural wines because of the myth that they don’t contain headache- and hangover-inducing sulfites.1 “Is it the sulfites in your wine making you feel weird, or is the food dye?” asks a bemused Berrigan. More on the dye situation in the next section, but for now, let’s talk about what sulfites do—and why they’re usually necessary in wine. Natural wine continues to grow and we love to see it. https://lnkd.in/e38ppsDe

Terroir y’all “…the study offers solid scientific proof that terroir exists. It’s something that many aficionados already know, that well-made wines exude a sense of place and that the surrounding environment deeply influences the end result. Maybe we can finally move on from stupid debates over whether terroir “matters” as well as the legions of terroir deniers who still populate the wine industry.
