Why I chose Marketing... Embarking on a career in marketing was not a decision I made lightly; it was the culmination of a passion for creativity, a fascination with consumer behaviour, and a desire to be at the forefront of driving business growth. Today, I want to share with you why I chose marketing as my career path and why I believe it's one of the most dynamic and impactful fields to be in. Firstly, marketing is at the heart of connecting businesses with their audiences. It's about understanding people's needs, desires, and behaviours and crafting messages that resonate with them. This aspect of marketing greatly appealed to me because it combines psychology, sociology, and business uniquely. It's a career that challenges you to think analytically and creatively to solve problems and innovate. Secondly, the ever-evolving nature of marketing keeps me on my toes. With the advent of digital technologies, the landscape is continually shifting, offering new platforms and tools to reach audiences in more personalized and impactful ways. This constant innovation is exhilarating and drives my passion for lifelong learning. It's a field where curiosity is rewarded, and adaptability is essential. Finally, marketing offers the opportunity to make a tangible impact. Whether it's launching a campaign that goes viral, helping a small business grow, or contributing to the success of a global brand, the results of your work are visible and measurable. You’ve probably seen job postings like: • “Degree in Marketing or Communications required,” • “5+ years of agency experience a must,” • “MBA preferred for marketing manager positions”… And the list goes on. See, in my head, marketing is learned beyond the classroom. It’s about being curious, paying attention to real-world trends, and adapting your strategies based on real data and feedback. 📊 Whether I’m creating content or developing strategies, some of the most valuable marketing lessons I’ve learned come from: • Jumping in and immersing myself in the industry, • Testing out new approaches, • Listening to audience reactions, • Continuously evolving as trends shift. I changed careers many times but did i fail .... From IT to marketing, it was a leap. With an IT degree, I ventured into tech, but felt unfulfilled. Customer interactions drew me in, and an MBA in Services Marketing beckoned I took a chance, and Dublin Business School became my next step. Studies opened doors to digital marketing, customer psychology, and brand building. Post-MBA, I didn't find instant success, but retail sales taught me customer service basics. Persistence paid off, and I landed a marketing role at ISD Global, managing social media for major brands. Digital marketing skills sharpened, with SEO, analytics, and results delivered. Career growth accelerated as Senior Marketing Specialist at VR Digitals, leading innovative campaigns and driving client growth. Now, my marketing and tech skills merged in perfect synergy. Looking back, the transition was scary, but worth every moment, as I found my true calling. Continuous learning is key, with certifications from Google Digital Garage and Instagram Marketing. Big life and career update! As of last month, I have officially completed an intensive six-month course in digital marketing, offered through Columbia Business School Executive Education. This past half year has taught me a wide range of invaluable skills, including SEO, display advertising, social media advertising, organic & paid search advertising, B2B & B2C marketing, brand management, influencer & viral marketing, and optimizing marketing budgets based on data-driven insights. I was also introduced to concepts such as the role of AI in digital marketing and how automation can guide marketers through a customer purchasing journey. These skills were put into action as I completed three capstone projects to wrap up the course, designing hypothetical scenarios for brand campaigns wanting to reach targeted audiences. Special thanks to professors Kinshuk Jerath and Clark Boyd for taking these complex topics and breaking them down in a straightforward, fascinating, and engaging way. All that being said, I am entering the next phase of my career journey. As many of you know, my primary professional background to date has been in the fields of music, audio engineering, sound design, and live production operations. With this course completed, I aim to remain in the entertainment industry but with a new focus on marketing, branding, social media, advertising, and strategic partnerships. Wondering what to do after graduation? I was there too, staring at the vast expanse of possibilities, feeling more lost than ever. My journey to becoming a digital marketer was anything but straightforward. Coming from a science background with a Bsc degree, I found myself stuck, not sure which direction to go. There wasn't a single person to guide me or offer career advice that felt right for me. I decided to follow market trends and pursue an MBA in Digital Marketing—a field completely new to me. It was a leap of faith, filled with both excitement and anxiety. I knew nothing about digital marketing at the start, but I was determined to learn and grow. During my MBA, I worked as a Business Development Intern for a month. It was a sales job, and although it was a valuable experience, I quickly realized that marketing is not the same as sales. This stint helped me understand my true calling: digital marketing. The journey was filled with hurdles, but each challenge taught me something new. To be a good digital marketer, I learned the importance of creativity, analytical thinking, adaptability, and a deep understanding of consumer behavior. I honed my skills in content creation, SEO, social media management, and data analysis.   Every skill I acquired made me more confident in my career choice. If you're feeling lost or unsure about your future, remember that it's okay not to have all the answers right away. Trust yourself, Explore different opportunities, and don't be afraid to pivot if something doesn't feel right. Every challenge is a stepping stone towards your true passion. Excited to Start My New Chapter as a Marketing Professional! The job search is tough—I know firsthand how challenging it is currently for myself to navigate rejection, stay motivated, and find the right fit. But every challenge is bringing me closer to achieving personal success, and I'm thrilled with my growth On Thursday I do my final presentation in the Columbia University Digital Marketing Boot Camp. With that my classmates and myself will have completed a huge milestone. We are now professionals! Now it's time to put the real work in and truly land where we see ourselves. For myself that is within my job search looking for the opportunity to grow in my career. For some of my classmates it will be within their current jobs or their own businesses.
