Excellent podcast, recommended listening and some excellent follow-up resources located on the website. For those of you that have followed my digital assessment journey from #UBC, there are parallels here to my pillars that #AcademicIntegrity is not just a 'teacher' problem, but an institutional one. The #SwissCheeseModel addresses this quite nicely, and where my recommendation of the assessment #RadarTrap fits as well.

This is key. You want AI to do the things you don’t enjoy. Leave the fun stuff to your human hands. Otherwise we are destined to become machine operators. We’d live in a dystopian world where we’d all write AI books to be skimmed and summarized by AI bots. Students would use AI to do their work just to be graded by AI bots. We have the power to keep our humanity where it belongs.

"Why are we having the robots and AI helping dreary people do the creative things, instead of [helping] the creative people do the dreary things?" Sometimes a podcast host asks exactly the right questions to get the most out of their guest. As always, it was an absolute pleasure to speak with Dan Bowen 🎸 and Ray Fleming for the AI in Education Podcast (return visitor!). This time around, we spoke about AI, assessment, and automated grading. Hot topic! When we spoke, I'd recently posted an article called "Don't Use AI To Grade Student Work" (link in comments). It's safe to say that it stirred up a few feelings, with over 600 comments across three LinkedIn posts and a blog article. In this episode of the podcast, we discuss my thoughts on AI and assessment, and look at some of the emerging research about whether we can - or should - automate grading.
