Unveiling MAP-Neo: Pioneering Transparency and Performance in Bilingual Language Models In the realm of Language and Machine Learning Models (LLMs), a paradigm shift is underway. While renowned models like GPT, Gemini, and Claude have dazzled with their performance, they’ve often shrouded their methodologies in proprietary veils, leaving curious minds in the dark about training specifics. Open-source alternatives like LLaMA-3 have made strides by sharing weights but are still lacking in transparency regarding training data and methods. However, the tide is turning. Enter the era of fully transparent LLMs, spearheaded by initiatives such as Pythia, Amber, and OLMo, which aim to elevate scientific research by shedding light on pre-training data and training code.
