This is the beginning of a new era that telecom sector has never seen before. An awesome strategic move towards new revenue streams and use cases. "In a historic collaboration, Ericsson, together with some of the world’s largest telecom operators - including América Móvil, AT&T, Bharti Airtel, Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Reliance Jio, Singtel, Telefonica, Telstra, T-Mobile, Verizon and Vodafone - are joining forces and opening their networks to make advanced network capabilities easily accessible through a global platform for combined network APIs. The new venture will combine network APIs globally so that new applications will work anywhere, and on any network, making it easier and quicker for developers to innovate and provide new value-added services to enterprises. The new company will sell combined APIs to a broad ecosystem of developer platforms, including hyperscalers (HCPs), Communications Platform as a Service (CPaaS) providers, System Integrators (SIs) and Independent Software Vendors (ISVs)"

Ericsson Teams Up to Drive Innovation with Network APIs - announced a joint venture with a dozen telecom operators - América Móvil, AT&T, @Bharti Airtel, Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Reliance Jio, Singtel, Telefónica, Telstra, T-Mobile, Verizon and Vodafone - to combine and sell network Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) on a global scale to spur innovation in digital services - Ericsson will hold 50% of the venture, the rest by telecom providers; the venture has fully funded business plan for 3 years Ericsson bet on network APIs by agreeing to buy Vonage for $6.2 billion in 2021, but since then, it has taken impairment charges of $4 billion. APIs have gained momentum as a new vector for 5G monetization in the last couple of years. This collaboration is set to drive innovation in the telecom industry, enabling developers to build advanced applications with real-time data and connectivity at their core. It's a major step forward in harnessing the power of 5G and cloud technologies! It is a great initiative and the right step towards the future. However, success may well depend on execution. #TelecomInnovation #5G #APIs #Ericsson #vonage #TechCollaboration #monetization

Great initiative that could bring lot of innovation in 5G space and would benefit entire Telco landscape ..
5G was launched to be a platform for innovation and for digitalizing enterprise and society. We are now taking an important step in realizing this promise. I am truly excited to announce a historic collaboration between Ericsson and some of the world’s largest telecom operators - including América Móvil, AT&T, Bharti Airtel, Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Reliance Jio, Singtel, Telefonica, Telstra, T-Mobile, Verizon and Vodafone. As part of a new venture, these operators will open up their networks and make advanced network capabilities easily accessible on a global platform for combined network APIs. With 5G, we have the potential to accelerate digitalization in society. But to make this happen we need to make the fundamental elements of 5G networks – like extreme low latency, lightning-fast speeds and other differentiated services – broadly accessible to application developers. These capabilities can provide new use cases for banking, logistics, manufacturing, among others, while unlocking additional new revenues for the telecom industry. However, with over 400 operators around the world, integrating with each one is neither practical nor economical for developers. What’s needed is an aggregation layer that seamlessly combines operator interfaces to advanced 5G capabilities. This is what we will do through this groundbreaking announcement: empower developers like never before, unlock new use cases for enterprises and society that will reimagine the future of connectivity. Together, we will create a global platform with a comprehensive ecosystem that will provide millions of developers with easy access to advanced 5G network capabilities and enable the telecom industry to invest deeper into the network API opportunity. This will greatly benefit the telecom industry, enterprises - and society as a whole. I invite you to join us in exploring the future of digitalization through the untapped potential of network APIs and developer innovation. https://lnkd.in/dpyEcRPN #MobileNetworks #Connectivity #5G #NetworkAPI #Technology #Ericsson #Developers

We're unlocking the Power of 5G for Global Innovation 🌍 5G networks have the potential to transform industries and accelerate digitalization across society. But to truly realize this potential, the cutting-edge features of 5G — like ultra-low latency, lightning-fast speeds, and advanced services including Quality on Demand, Location, Authentication and so much more — need to be accessible to the developers who can innovate with them. Until now, these capabilities have been underutilized, held back by limited global access. But today, that changes: In a historic collaboration, more than 10 of the world’s leading mobile operators, including América Móvil, AT&T, Bharti Airtel, Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Reliance Jio, Singtel, Telefonica, Telstra, T-Mobile, Verizon and Vodafone, are partnering with Ericsson to unlock the true potential of 5G by turning these advanced capabilities into global Network APIs. This opens up an entirely new world of possibilities for partners and developers, enabling the creation of revolutionary applications across sectors like banking, logistics, and manufacturing. The future of 5G is here, and it’s global, open, and ready for partners and developers to innovate! #5G #Developers #NetworkAPI #Ericsson #Partnering

Congratulations Börje Ekholm and rest of Ericsson team for this new venture (hopefully we will know it's name soon). Ericsson as usual takes the telecom industry a step forward ⏩. Good to start based on #CAMARA recognizing the effort of GSMA and The Linux Foundation . GSMA - Internet of Things should also get involved because it is an initiative about the future. These network APIs should include access to #NB-IoT, download of #eSIM profile, enquiring existing eSIM profile settings, etc. I believe Ericsson & Ericsson Software as an industry leader must have considered to involve TM Forum as well because Ericsson wants this to be a global standard. Tmforum have already done a tremendous effort in defining Open APIs for the various nodes inside the service layer network and tmforum have a big history with the telecom developers community and already working as the certification body for both operators and product providers including Ericsson and others from non telecom world 🌍. I can envision it is going to be a 🚀 boost from Google to join to utilize the network APIs from #Android and similarly from Apple for #iOS but it should be one step 🪜 at a time. instead of competition 🥊🤼♂️ on who should own the consumer (Handset makers, OS, application developers or the CSP), it should be who is cooperating and teaming up 👬 to serve the consumer. Alternatively, the new venture needs to build the developers community from scratch starting by university programs in every country or bring Ericsson Mobility World old days back to life. Best of luck in this #new 🆕 #long #journey of 3rd party products and #digital services utilizing the #network #APIs.
