The decision to shut down the NDRC is a devastating blow to Ireland’s startup ecosystem. It’s short-sighted, backward, poorly timed, and frankly, a disservice to the founders who are driving innovation in this country. At a moment when Ireland needs to double down on homegrown startups, this feels like a kick in the teeth to the entrepreneurs who are shaping our future. I experienced firsthand the transformative impact of the NDRC when I took my first company, Robotify, through the program. For first-time founders, programs like this are more than accelerators—they're lifelines. They provide essential mentorship, guidance, and funding when you need it most. Since 2020, the NDRC, led by the incredible team at Dogpatch Labs (Patrick Walsh, Menno Axt), has helped startups across the country raise over €200 million—proof of the momentum it has built. It created opportunities not just in Dublin but nationwide, fostering innovation and supporting the next generation of entrepreneurs. We need more programs like this, not fewer.
