This letter is indeed very distressing and the twitter post that James Fudge has shared even more so! @Nick Kanungi - I speak for most (if not all of the community), we are with you in spirit and through guidance and whatever support we can offer. This sort of malice in esports has to be called out and ceased as soon as it is noticed to prevent esports being weaponized or monopolized. I mean if the publishers / developers have no issue and there are no moral or ethical issues in place, I don't believe anyone has any right to ask people to cancel their events! Furthermore, we are still a very young industry and ought to call out and stop any and all malpractices to ensure that we are building a thriving and growing industry which only improves with time, instead of giving in to the corporate structures that already stand (I'm not against them, but definitely not in their favor either with stuff like this going on). Let's try to build a healthier and more robust industry which is above this malice. Thanks again James Fudge for sharing this particular article. (It hits a nerve when you see stuff like this!)

Further underlining its hosting credentials, esports events in Saudi Arabia have welcomed nearly four million fans to enjoy live experiences in the Kingdom, with a further 1.3 billion views from across the globe on a variety of streaming platforms. Following one of the most historical moments for esports, my thoughts lay on the fundamentals. 📚 It's crucial to look at the basic principles of esports. There is no solid future without grassroots, without strategy and without knowledge. Whether it is the Olympics, the Winter Olympics, the Esports Olympics, whether in Saudi Arabia, France or in the US, whether played on a football field, in water or on a console... The "where" and "how" don't really matter. In the end, it will always be about athletes, about people. Particularly in esports, where time and stability are even harder to predict, we need to provide the players a safe ecosystem, the best conditions today but ultimately a tomorrow to rely on. On top of the latest announcements for esports, I would love to see more on the following topics: ➕ Look after the needs of each esport: ➕ Entry level competitions where players can develop their skills. We need more grassroots and less major events; ➕ Sharing knowledge to have better prepared employees; ➕ Safe conditions for players in areas like health, school and finance; ➕ Dedicated programs to bring more women into esports; ➕ Aligned strategies between IP owner's and tournament organizers; ➕ Better calendars and at least mid-term visibility for athletes, clubs and TO's; ➕ Successful cases for commercial partners; ➕ Connection between generations.
