Solving Crosswords is a great way to test your mental agility and an even better way to stay in touch with the zeitgeist. I solve the New York Times Crossword live on YouTube every morning as a bit of a brain exercise. You can follow along by joining the livestream. In today's live-streamed video (~11 mins), I have also explained some simple ways to get into crossword solving. I'm reproducing them here for those too lazy to watch a video. 1. start keeping track of repeat clues 2. review the final, solved crossword with the given clues to understand how the crossword maker phrased their clues 3. make sure to understand how to interpret a clue to so that the answer makes sense 4. look up ancillary information about a clue you just don't know the answer to so that not only can you solve the clue but you also learn a bit more about the topic of the clue. https://lnkd.in/gjjQzMnn #crossword #nytimes

Introducing the launch of my new children's literary project, ‘Angry Joel, The Boy Who Was Hurt’, a digital story highlighting the importance of trauma informed practice. Huge, HUGE shout to my dear pal Mairi Perry and fellow art therapist who did the wonderful illustrations for me. Thank you Mairi for just ‘getting’ my vision. “Trauma-informed approaches have become increasingly cited in policy and reduce the negative impact of trauma experiences and support mental and physical health outcomes.” GOV.UK Angry Joel entered my head one day last year, when I was at home, feeling poorly and lying on the couch! As an art therapist, I work with many young people who have felt misunderstood by those around them for almost their entire life. In Joel’s case, he had experienced adverse childhood experience since birth. His Grandmother was the only safe person he had to share his worries with. The adults and peers within his school judged him as being ‘bad’, when they had no idea what was going on for him personally. It is so important when working with young people that we: - Do not making any assumptions regarding a child’s behaviour without being aware of what is or has gone on for them in their life - Remember that ALL behaviour is communication – no child behaves in a challenging way for the sake of it, there will always be something at the root Having someone who Joel could confide in, helped there by his class teacher Miss Zain, completely changed his life. Joel needed this life ring and by accepting it, he was given a safe space to share his experiences and in turn feel calmer, and less sad and angry. As a therapist, when I receive a referral for a young person that mentions ‘anger issues’, ‘aggression’, ‘angry outbursts’, the first thing I think is, I wonder what has hurt them. Anger is so, so often hurt in disguise and it is so, so important that we hold this in mind. Thank you for watching. Do feel free to share with your networks. https://lnkd.in/eDDk_P9X

What if, you have never made a mistake in your entire life? What if, each mistake or accident made you smarter and stronger in specific ways you needed for your part in the success of this universe? To find out what is going on, read on." Written by Ken Pierce , Psychologist, Human Behaviour Expert
