I got asked about the #graduate #job market during our sixth form open evening last night, by more than one parent! Interesting report from the Institute of Student Employers. The figures are reality but not hugely positive. Even more reason for #graduates to position themselves as best they can in a competitive market by ensuring they engage with their university #careers service activities and partake in #workexperience and #workbasedlearning (ideally authentic work assessment - working on real business projects) during their time at university. I still think you can take simple steps to stand out from the crowd in the labour market but it needs a strategic approach to boosting your #employability.

Over 1 in 5 UK students not confident applying for degree-related jobs. Confidence is the biggest reason as around 30.1% admit they lack confidence in filling out job applications after life at University. Graduates: Understanding the industry and companies you’re applying to will help you tailor your applications. #graduates #insights #employment #students #graduation #employmentindustry #recruitmet #jobsearch https://lnkd.in/dvswzCPi

This is so true! Don’t let the stats put you off: if you’re a serious candidate there is plenty you can do to make your submission stand out from the mass of ‘crapplications’! Build your understanding of the role and company, by taking on the recruiter’s perspective, and you’ll boost your chances right away
Students and graduates: you may have seen this report that found that the average number of applications for a graduate job is 140. I can confirm this, and usually I get even more. It can sound scary, and may even put some people off applying (especially if they are lacking a bit of confidence). But I can guarantee that you will not be in competition with everyone who applies. For most graduate jobs a high percentage of applicants will be ruled out immediately. They may not have the right degree; or maybe lack an essential skill or piece of knowledge; the location may be wrong; their application could be sloppy; or the employer may not be able to sponsor the international graduates who apply. There are many reasons why someone may not be a good match. And often it could even be 10% or less who are in strong contention. The odds don't sound so bad now, do they? If you are a good fit for the required criteria, and if you are interested in the job, then please don't let the numbers put you off. Go for it: put in a good application, making sure the key criteria are covered on your CV, and you could be a contender. It can often be a case of timing as to when the right job comes along, so do keep trying. And it's always better to focus on jobs that you are really interested in, and where there is a good mutual match. Spend a bit more time on them, rather than 'praying and spraying', and sending as many applications as you can. #employabilityskills #graduatejobs #graduaterecruitment

Competition for graduate jobs has reached a record high with the average employer receiving 140 applications per graduate job, a 59 per cent increase on the previous year. Respondents to Institute of Student Employers (ISE) annual Student Recruitment Survey reported that they had received more than 1.2 million applications to just under 17,000 graduate vacancies.

In the UK, as an international student entering the job market as a fresher, you'll encounter two main types of job opportunities: ✅ Graduate Programs ✅ Trainee Entry-Level Positions (These are not traditional entry-level roles) In this Post I want to throw some light on Graduate Programs: Graduate programs are highly competitive and involve a lengthy, multi-stage selection process. Here’s an overview: 🔴 Online Application: Submit your CV, cover letter, and complete application questions. 🔴 Online Tests: These include a series of assessments such as situational judgement tests, personality tests, numerical reasoning, verbal reasoning, and logical reasoning. 🔴 One-Way Video Interview: This is often considered one of the most challenging stages. 🔴 Assessment Centre: Activities include group exercises, presentations, and more. 🔴 Final Interview: The last step before a potential job offer. The Catch To succeed, it is extremely important to apply as early as possible with a high-quality application and strong performance in the tests and video interview. Even with these efforts, there is only a 50% chance of being invited to the Assessment Centre (Stage 4). This is because assessment centres operate on a "First-Come, First-Served" basis. Once the available slots are filled, even if you pass the earlier stages, you may not be invited to the Assessment Centre simply because you applied too late. For positions in London, applying just 10-15 days after the job opening can significantly reduce your chances of progressing to the final stages. I strongly agree that you luck plays a significant factor in getting a job in the UK as an international student. #graduatejobs #UKjobmarket #internationalstudents

It almost feels controversial asking this: are there too many graduates for the jobs market? The Institute of Student Employers (ISE) has reported a sharp rise in competition for graduate jobs, with the average employer receiving 140 applications per vacancy. This represents a 59% increase compared to the previous year, as highlighted in the ISE’s latest Student Recruitment Survey. The surge in applications has resulted in over 1.2 million submissions for approximately 17,000 available graduate positions, setting a new record for the ISE, which has been tracking this data since 1991. One key reason is the slowdown in the graduate jobs market, with vacancies growing by just 4% in the last year, compared to 6% in the previous year. Employers are forecasting a modest 1% growth in vacancies for the upcoming year, citing ongoing economic pressures as a primary challenge to increasing hiring numbers. What are your thoughts? I've felt for a while education should be more practically focused - whilst I loved the experience of going to Uni, the most beneficial things I learned were all outside of the formal teaching programme. #JobMarket #Recruitment #GraduateCareers #HiringTrends #JobApplications #UKEconomy #StudentEmployers #TalentAcquisition #JobSearch #CareerOpportunities #FutureOfWork #Employment #EarlyCareers #JobHunting #WorkforceDevelopment

I attended the eCareerGrad's webinar today which was very interesting and informative. The focus of this webinar was on how to identify and search for international student friendly employers ie. UK employers who have and are most to sponsor international students. As we know, job hunting can be a lengthy and sometimes painful process. This webinar highlighted tools students could use to research employer’s history of offering graduate recruitment jobs. Such tools included the UK 100 Listing and the UK Sector Listing. For sure, I will not only be using these tools to research information and develop LMI but will also be encouraging students to use these tools to manage their search for employers more likely to offer graduate recruitment opportunities for international students. The New Entrant Salary Checker also seems like an invaluable tool to help students search for employers paying salaries which align with visa requirements. 💁♀️ MY TOP TIP to international students seeking to apply for graduate recruitment jobs ** Save yourself time by firstly researching the employer. This includes the employer's history of recruiting international graduates. Do this BEFORE starting the application process. #careerguidance #careermanagment #internationalstudent #graduaterecruitment #careerconsultant
