Most culture change efforts stumble at the first hurdle: resistance. But resistance isn’t the enemy—it’s a signal, and understanding it is key to success. From Amazon best seller, 'Better Culture, Faster': I don’t know: If people don’t know what, why, or how—communicate early, clearly, and often. I don’t agree: If people disagree with your approach—listen. Really listen. They might be right. I don’t believe: If people don’t believe in the change—dig deeper. What’s driving their resistance? When resistance is embraced, it can transform detractors into advocates. Don’t just solve problems—gain allies. 📖 Better Culture, Faster is available now: https://lnkd.in/eKx6KTpf How has resistance shaped change in your organization? Let’s discuss. #CultureChange #Leadership #ChangeManagement

Most culture change efforts stumble at the first hurdle: resistance. But here’s the thing – resistance isn’t the enemy. It’s a signal. From Amazon best seller, 'Better Culture, Faster': 1. I don’t know: what, why or how… communicate early and often. 2. I don’t agree: with the approach you’re taking… listen with Dumbo-sized ears – they might be right. 3. I don’t believe: we should be doing this… understand the deeper concerns driving the resistance. When we embrace resistance (rather than seek to “remove” it), we don’t just solve problems. We gain allies. https://lnkd.in/ewPAXvyu How has resistance helped (or hindered) a change in your organization? #CultureChange #Leadership #ChangeManagement

The old culture is the biggest hurdle to building a new one. In Amazon bestseller, 'Better Culture, Faster', we explain how old cultural habits—like slow decision-making or a lack of empowerment—can block change efforts. If teams have to refer up every decision, the pace grinds to a halt. What can you do? 1. Be fully candid with your Executive Team about where they’re helping—and hindering—progress. 2. Encourage everyone to put outdated practices on the bonfire. If something is fundamentally flawed, don’t tweak it—tear it down and start fresh. Which of these would make the biggest difference in your organization? Culture Week Friday: Yesterday, I shared the Change Formula as a way to drive readiness for change. Today, let's reflect on the power of principles. During my time at Amazon, I saw firsthand how the 14 Leadership Principles shaped our culture and drove unprecedented success. These principles aren't just words — they're the foundation of daily operations, from decision-making to product launches. They foster innovation, customer obsession, and a bias for action. Remember, while Amazon's specific list is unique to them, the underlying values capture universal principles in a mutually reinforcing system. The key is to adapt and apply these principles in a way that fits your organization's unique culture and goals. Pro tip: My Leadership Superpowers newsletter subscribers got the full story last week. The old culture is the biggest hurdle to building a new one. In my Amazon bestseller, 'Better Culture, Faster', I talk about how if your old culture makes decision-making slow, this will impede your change efforts and how an old culture of a lack of empowerment will get in the way of the change team doing what they need to do... without having to refer up – slowly – for a decision. There are things you can put in place to ensure the old culture doesn’t get in the way of introducing the new one. E.g.: 1. Full candour with the Executive Team about where they’re helping and hindering 2. Encourage everyone to put old ways of doing things on the bonfire. There’s no point tweaking something that’s fundamentally flawed. Tear it down and start again. Which of these would make the biggest difference in your organization? #CultureChange #Leadership #OrganizationalDevelopment

Making Better Decisions with a Door Analogy In the fast-paced world of business, decision-making is key. Amazon's concept of categorizing decisions into "one-way doors" (irreversible) and "two-way doors" (reversible) can be a game-changer. 🤔 One-way door decisions require careful consideration and extensive due diligence, as they have long-term consequences and are difficult to undo. 🔄 Two-way door decisions are less consequential and can be easily reversed if they don't yield the desired outcome. These are opportunities to experiment and innovate. 💡 I encourage you to foster a culture that empowers teams to make two-way door decisions, encouraging innovation and agility. Reserve the one-way door decisions for those with the experience and judgment to navigate the complexities. Let's discuss: How do you differentiate between one-way and two-way door decisions in your organization? #Vistage #DecisionMaking #Leadership #Innovation #Strategy #BusinessGrowth #OneWayDoor #TwoWayDoor

✨ Celebrating 6 Months of Leading Beyond the Numbers! ✨ Six months ago, Leading Beyond the Numbers launched into the world — and what a journey it’s been! I’m beyondthrilled (and a little in awe!) that it hit the #1 spot in Amazon's Business Management & Leadership category, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with classics by Stephen Covey and Dale Carnegie. 📚 The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People has inspired readers since 1989. 📚 How to Win Friends and Influence People first appeared in 1936. And now Leading Beyond the Numbers — 2024’s fresh, human-centred take on leadership, asking leaders to not just measure, but truly value the unmeasurable: trust, empathy and well-being. It’s humbling to sit ahead of these legends, especially as a woman bringing her own lived experience to the table, challenging the “numbers-first” mindset that still dominates. Where Covey champions habits and Carnegie focuses on influence, Leading Beyond the Numbers is about integrating our whole selves—emotions included—into work. For everyone who’s read, shared, or reflected with me over the past 6 months — thank you. Let’s continue shaping workplaces that see people, not just numbers. Here’s to the next chapter in creating a more fulfilling work-life!🌍✨ #WorkLife #Leadership #HumanCentred #EmotionalIntelligence #LeadingBeyondTheNumbers #AmazonBestseller #LeadershipDevelopment

I firmly believe that the way we treat people, regardless of their background, social status, or job title, is what truly matters in life. I am not impressed by superficial things like wealth, social status, or job titles but by the way people conduct themselves in their interactions with other human beings. For me, empathy, kindness, and respect for others are the qualities that truly make someone impressive.
