Year after year, the hellenic microelectronics ecosystem grows and flourishes. What was a chimera 10-15 years ago becomes a mature and credible ecosystem, attracting international actors, intergrating Research Centers and Universities and increasingly penetrating international markets. Hetia forum is the mirror of this nice growth. Looking forward to the continuation of this healthy develoment.

Excited to share that I presented our ongoing research entitled “Quality of Life (QOL) and Quality of Business (QOB) based Air-front Smart City Evaluation Method” at the 第70回土木計画学研究発表会 (70th Infrastructure Planning and Management Conference) in Okayama University, Okayama, Japan! This research study developed a new concept, a QOL and QOB-based evaluation method for, but not limited to, air-front smart city developments where airports and urban development will be connected to the hinterland by transportation and ICT networks to achieve industrial innovation, higher QOL and Decarbonization (De-CO2).

As I near the completion of my academic journey at Zayed University, I am thrilled to share the culmination of my efforts: “Modernity and Society: Forces of Influence and Reshaping Across Time.” 🌍 In this project, I delved into the profound interplay between modernity and society, unraveling how they continuously shape and redefine one another. My research journey took me across fascinating concepts, including: 🔹 The Anthropocene Era: Where humanity’s unparalleled impact has transformed the planet’s trajectory, positioning us as both creators and disruptors (Lewis & Maslin). 🔹 Cultural Convergence: How globalization fosters shared ideologies, values, and even design—think of airports worldwide symbolizing a unified, modern aesthetic (Wagner, Bayly). 🔹 Technology as a Force of Connection: Exploring how technological systems act as the connective tissue binding our modern world, mediating nearly every aspect of life (Misa). My findings underscore a central truth: society is the engine of modernity—driving progress, shaping innovations, and evolving alongside them. From industrial revolutions to digital transformations, this reciprocal relationship is the cornerstone of our modern experience. This project challenged me to think critically, research deeply, and connect interdisciplinary insights—skills I’m excited to bring into my professional endeavors as I prepare for the next chapter.

Around 420 people from 50 nations travelled to Brisbane for ICRI 2024, with more than 500 people joining online. IMOS Executive Director, Michelle Heupel, demonstrated the real-world application of ocean observations in the panel “Research infrastructures success stories in supporting research translation.” Research Infrastructures (RIs) constitute major strategic assets across all scientific disciplines, research fields and national, regional, and global scales. They support the research needed to produce breakthrough discoveries and address societal challenges. For international cooperation and collaboration among RIs, it is necessary to develop and implement governance and funding models that build trust, manage risk and enable infrastructures to keep up with technological developments. The Brisbane Statement arises from the 2024 International Conference on Research Infrastructures (ICRI 2024). It encourages all RI stakeholders to actively consider the role of RIs in addressing global challenges, and how strengthening international RI collaborations can help solve them.
