Feature Presentation at Infraday East - December 11 - NYC - www.infraday.com/east - "Delivering renewable energy to NYC on the Champlain Hudson Power Express" - New York City’s energy transition will be foundationally supported by the delivery of hydropower from Quebec via the Champlain Hudson Power Express- the longest buried transmission line project in the United States currently under construction and slated to be in-service in May of 2026. The 339-mile transmission line terminating in Astoria Queens will provide 20% of NYC’s annual energy needs, displace climate emissions equivalent to removing 44% of cars from the City’s roads and significantly help to reduce local air pollution prevalent in environmental justice communities located in proximity to fossil fuel power generation. Over the course of its construction, CHPE will create 1,400 union jobs. In addition, the project’s $40 million Green Economy Fund will support workforce training to individuals living in disadvantaged communities. This will be presented by: Peter Rose, Senior Director, Hydro Québec Energy Services #renewablenergy #energytransition

In our latest article, Johnathan Reynolds looks at just this, pitching a new way forward - a more collaborative, more constructive form of engagement - that can show how regions can embrace the energy transition in a way that is both sustainable and beneficial for all. "We need to see a much more balanced approach and more proactive and open engagement with developers. Suffolk County Council’s constant opposition is deeply frustrating as Suffolk has some extraordinary investment opportunities across the clean energy sectors. This opposition is also contradictory, considering that these new grid infrastructure projects are precisely what’s needed to continue the growth of the region’s renewable energy sector." #netzero #energytransition #collaboration #climatechange #climateemergency

A partnership between OCH and Hydro Ottawa continues to spark change. On July 24, we announced the agreement to continue collaborating on innovative projects that will help us achieve our net-zero goals. Here are some examples of how that partnership works currently: · Since 2010, $64.1M in cost savings has been reinvested in improving OCH operations. · In 2022, OCH partnered with Hydro Ottawa, the Ottawa Climate Action Fund, EnviroCentre, and car-sharing company Communauto to launch a pilot EV car-share program at phase one of Mosaïq Ottawa. Due to its success, the program will be expanded to include another OCH development at 715 Mikinak later this summer. Since its launch, the EV car-share program has seen 255 users collectively travel 34,444 kilometres over 4,695 hours of drive time without a drop of fossil fuel! · To date, 37 solar arrays have been installed. They have the capacity to generate 500,000 kWh, which could power almost 70 homes for a whole year. What is coming next? · A major investment by Hydro Ottawa and OCH includes the design for the installation of 260 heat pumps for individual townhomes over time. · Building automation systems (BAS) to optimize energy use. BAS systems have been implemented in 18 OCH buildings and we are currently working on the design for another 27 buildings. More info: https://bit.ly/46fFYs5

To bring #OffshoreWind into the grid, there needs to be critical investments in transmission and ports infrastructure. However, this must include rural and tribal communities. In The Brookings Institution article, co-written by Hoopa Valley Public Utilities District's Linnea Jackson and COREHub's Katerina Oskarsson, Ph.D., they explain that "it’s time to end mega-project malpractice once and for all. The high-road approach that does just that is now in plain view. It is the more resilient path in multiple senses of the word. Thanks to historic federal funding, it is also affordable—and absolutely essential to the broader climate agenda." 📖 Read more at: https://lnkd.in/gujBMTJn

🌞 Exciting News for Renewable Energy! 🌱 Thrilled to announce that the federal government is investing $366 million in 17 projects across the U.S. to expand access to renewable energy on Native American reservations and rural areas! As Renewable energy supporter, I'm inspired by this commitment to sustainability and inclusivity. These projects will bring solar, battery storage, and hydropower solutions to regions where electricity is costly and unreliable, paving the way for a greener and more resilient future. It's incredible to see the impact of the $1 trillion infrastructure law signed by President Joe Biden in 2021. Secretary Jennifer Granholm rightfully called this announcement "historic" at the clean energy tribal summit in Southern California. This marks the largest amount awarded by the Department of Energy to tribes for energy projects. It's sobering to note that about a fifth of homes in the Navajo Nation still lack electricity access. This initiative is a vital step towards addressing such disparities and ensuring equitable access to clean energy. Being in the different part of the world, it's feel good to recognize the ongoing efforts of Native tribes in Nevada and Arizona to protect their lands and sacred sites amidst renewable energy expansion. Collaboration and respect for indigenous communities are essential as we navigate towards a sustainable future. Kudos to the Biden administration for prioritizing renewable energy and empowering Native American communities. Together, we can drive positive change and build a brighter, cleaner tomorrow. 💡 #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #SolarPower #CleanEnergy #BidenAdministration!!
