How fitting that Private Richard Norden has been posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross on Remembrance Day. In 1968 on the field of battle in Vietnam, 19-year-old Private Norden displayed extraordinary bravery. Not only did he rescue one of his mates and retrieve the body of another under heavy fire, he also took an enemy position that helped protect his fellow platoon members. Upon returning home, Private Norden swapped a khaki uniform for a blue one by joining the ACT Police. Such was the measure of the man who served his country in more ways than one. Tragically, Richard died only a few years later while on duty. This award has been a long time coming. But it’s wonderful that Private Norden’s family today know that his valour has been finally and appropriately recognised with Australia’s highest military honour. We remember our fallen today, so we don’t forget who we are. And may our memory of them hold us to the mark.

Drawing inspiration from the ANZAC spirit today: resilience, courage, and unwavering camaraderie. As we march forward, let's infuse our endeavors with positivity, knowing that even the darkest nights give way to brighter days. Just as the ANZACs faced their trials with innovation and adaptability, let's embrace the power of test automation to streamline our processes and overcome testing challenges more efficiently. Together, let's forge ahead with optimism, turning obstacles into opportunities and setbacks into stepping stones. Lest we forget the power of positivity and innovation to illuminate our path forward. #ANZAC #Positivity #Resilience #TestAutomation #Freedomfrombugs

Remembrance and Veterans Week Today the Ontario government is introducing the Honouring Veterans Act, 2024. If passed, it would expand recognition to living veterans for their service and contributions, in addition to those who gave their lives in the service of our country. The proposed Act also condemns any actions that disrespect veterans, including acts of stolen valour which involves making false claims or representations about military service, rank or medals received. This includes the unlawful use of government sanctioned medals, uniforms, and decorations. In addition to being a criminal offence under Section 419 of the Criminal Code, today's proposed changes specifically condemn these acts. The Ministry of the Solicitor General will also promote enhanced awareness and enforcement of stolen valour. Hilary Engward Anglia Ruskin. While writing my MSc dissertation in 2022, I grappled with the term ‘Commonwealth personnel.’ Instead, I found it more fitting to refer to refer myself as a ‘spouse of a Zimbabwean-born personnel serving in the British Army.’ I had hoped that the government’s replacement of ‘Foreign & Commonwealth personnel’ with ‘Non-UK serving personnel’ and ‘Non-UK veterans’ would be more inclusive, but it has proven otherwise. These labels inadvertently create division within the organisation. In reality, anyone serving in the British Army, regardless of their place of birth, is a British Army serving personnel or veteran —period. Rather than using terms like ‘Commonwealth’ or ‘non-UK’ to describe people, let’s recognize all service members as part of the same organisation. By emphasizing unity over division, we can foster a more cohesive and supportive environment within the British Army. Promoting inclusivity and acknowledging the shared commitment of all personnel will undoubtedly strengthen our collective resolve. let's keep fighting for a better world 🌎 🙏

Over 100,000 Gurkhas and Commonwealth citizens have served in the British Armed Forces, with 6,000 still serving and living in England, Wales & Scotland with their families. The government has replaced the term 'Foreign & Commonwealth personnel' with the label 'Non-UK personnel' and 'Non-UK veterans', which diminishes our unique identity and sense of belonging. Serving in the British Armed Forces requires us to live a life with very little separation between life and work, where everybody relies on each other – prepared if necessary to lay down our lives for the man or woman next to us in the fight, as well as our families, unit and country. The label 'Non-UK' fails to acknowledge our sacrifices and contributions throughout history, erases the rich heritage and camaraderie shared among British, Commonwealth, and Allied forces, and reduces the importance of feeling like we belong to the country we serve and have sacrificed our lives for. This labelling affects individuals and their families, fostering a sense of isolation and detachment from our heritage and service. To the men and women of Canada's Armed Forces who have served their nation with distinction in war and in peace. The National Military Cemetery is a national focal point of honour which recognises the men and women of Canada’s Armed Forces who have served their country with distinction in war and in peace. As a national site of recognition, this cemetery is unique within Canada. Preplanning your cemetery arrangements is one of the most thoughtful and considerate gifts you can give to your loved ones, because it relieves the burden of making difficult and expensive decisions at the time of grieving, and lets you set your own legacy. It really means: Sparing your family from making hard decisions at an emotionally stressful time; Lightening additional grief at the time of loss; Ensuring your decisions are informed and thoughtful; Choosing the specific items you want at today’s prices. https://lnkd.in/eug-mUq8 #armedforces #armedforcescommunity #canada #canadianarmedforces #royalcanadiannavy #rcn #royalcanadianairforce #rcaf #canadianarmy

A history you might want to read.
Retired Police Officer, Veteran Advocate, Documentary Film Producer & Author of the books, "The Giant Killer" and "Giant Killers, War Heroes & Special Forces Legends"
United Kingdom Special Forces Hero! Scotsman John McAleese is one of the UK’s most decorated soldiers of all time. He’s one of the rare SAS soldiers who saw fame while serving, as the world watched the UK’s response to terrorists taking over the Iranian Embassy in London. For six days, the British government lay siege to the embassy. On the sixth day, they killed a hostage and the SAS were called in. The world watched live as McAleese and his blue team followed the red team into the embassy by blowing their way into a first-floor window. In 17 minutes, the SAS killed all but one of the terrorists, losing only one hostage. McAleese also served in the Falklands War and earned medals fighting the Irish Republican Army during the Troubles. The book, "Giant Killers, War Heroes and Special Forces Legends" honors these incredible war heroes making sure their stories of valor and sacrifice are never forgotten. The book is available now on Amazon. God Bless our Vets! #unitedkingdom #UKSAS #scotland #UnitedKingdommilitary #Military #specialforces #team #london
