Beechwood Cemetery, located in Ottawa, Ontario, is the National Cemetery of Canada.
About us
The Beechwood Cemetery Foundation was created in 2000 for the purpose of safeguarding the cemetery’s future, and increasing public awareness of the cemetery and the important events of Canadian history associated with persons buried within it. Since then, Beechwood has grown in national significance, first becoming the home of the National Military Cemetery of the Canadian Forces, then being recognized as a National Historic Site in 2001 and finally by becoming the home of the RCMP National Memorial Cemetery in 2004. This culminated in 2009 with Beechwood’s designation as the National Cemetery of Canada by way of Bill C-17, an Act of Parliament that received all-party support in the House of Commons. In 2011, Beechwood became the Ottawa Police Service Memorial Cemetery.

2024 Fundraising - Ways to donate The Beechwood Cemetery Foundation is a small but mighty non-profit. The donations given annually go towards the beautification of the gardens, the care that goes into designing the grounds and the maintenance of the property. The reason Beechwood Cemetery looks as amazing as it does is because of the generosity of our donors. The Canada Post strike has drastically impacted the Foundation’s annual giving. The letter mailout never reached mailboxes. This is why Beechwood is pivoting and trying to think outside the box to ensure our 2025 programming is not impacted. Below are four ways you can still donate this year. Donate directly on our website When donating to the Beechwood Cemetery Foundation, you will instantly receive a tax receipt via email if you donate directly through our website. You can also select which program your donation impacts. Please consider donating today. https://lnkd.in/eSxn6y9 Over the phone giving Please call 613-741-9530 ex 122 or ask for the fundraising coordinator Erika Wagner, she will be more than happy to process your donation over the phone. In person drop off Our building is open! If you want to drop off a cheque, we have the donation forms at the front desk to ensure you get your tax receipt. Please come by! Thank you to everyone who attended Beechwood's Christmas Candlelight Service on Sunday, December 8, 2024. The event included a non-denominational candlelight memorial service, carols led by the Ottawa University Choir, and a tree-lighting ceremony. We also appreciated the moving prayers by Monseigneur Gilles Lavergne, Captain Rev. Michael Perreault, and Rabbi Idan Scher. Thank you to those who brought non-perishable food items for the Food Bank. If you'd like to see the lights, they will remain on every night at dark. Please remember to dress warmly if you plan to visit. #BeechwoodCandlelightService #HolidaySeason #CommunityEvent

Remembering Loved Ones During the Holidays The holidays are a time of joy, gathering, and heartfelt remembrance. While we revel in the festive cheer, it's also a profound opportunity to remember and honor those who are no longer with us. Embracing the notion that we will always remember our loved ones, it's important to share their stories and legacies during this season. Such traditions not only keep their memories alive but also allow us to pass these cherished tales onto the next generations. Here are some heartfelt ways to incorporate the memories of loved ones into your holiday traditions, providing comfort and a sense of connection, and inviting you to share your favorite holiday memory of them with younger family members. https://lnkd.in/ewvSppv9

Honouring Service and Sacrifice: The Lebanese Soldiers Remembrance Committee’s First Wreath-Laying Ceremony November marked Lebanese Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the rich culture, history, and contributions of the Lebanese community in Canada. This year, it also became the backdrop for a poignant and historic moment at the National Military Cemetery of Canada. On November 20 2024, the Lebanese Soldiers Remembrance Committee held its inaugural wreath-laying ceremony, paying tribute to the brave Lebanese-Canadian men and women who have served in the Canadian Armed Forces. This significant event was a solemn recognition of their loyalty, dedication, and courage. The ceremony featured the laying of a wreath by Colonel Mohamed Ali Shamas of the Canadian Armed Forces and Honorary Colonel Omar Abouzaher of the Governor General’s Foot Guards. Their participation symbolized the deep ties between the Lebanese community and the Canadian military. Both officers, celebrated leaders in their fields, represent the pride and contribution of Lebanese Canadians in national service. https://lnkd.in/ehHWSYiE
