A week ago, the #RAKEnergySummit showcased Ras Al Khaimah's bold commitment to sustainable energy and development. The following are some of the main points made by the keynote speakers on the first day: HH Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi said "energy is central to our lives and our economy" and that we must "build a future in which energy is readily available, reliable, affordable, and, crucially, sustainable." Saif Ghubash stated that the UAE is investing AED 200 billion in clean energy infrastructure to triple renewable energy contribution to the country's energy mix by 2030 and that the goal is to increase clean energy generation to 32% and boost energy efficiency to 45% by 2050. He also said that the UAE is committed to reducing its grid emissions to 0.27 kg CO2/kWh Other corporate sustainability leaders also presented their sustainability pledges: ALDAR emphasized that sustainability is at the core of its business strategy Schneider Electric highlighted that its AI and digital technologies play a very relevant role in accelerating the energy transition Tabreed stressed its focus on actionable decisions for environmental and commercial benefits Other topics discussed included residential and urban transformation with a focus on sustainable city-level approaches to energy transition and the development of innovative mobility and sustainable living solutions.

As we approach COP29, the new report by International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), "Delivering on the UAE Consensus," sheds light on our progress towards the ambitious goals of tripling renewable energy capacity and doubling energy efficiency by 2030. The findings are clear: while renewable capacity hit a record 473 GW in 2023, we still need to nearly triple that annually to reach 1,044 GW and meet the 11.2 TW target by 2030. Key strategic priorities for energy leaders include: 👉 Rethink national commitments: Current NDCs will deliver just 1.5 TW of renewables, far short of the 7 TW needed. Nations must raise ambitions and embed stronger renewable targets into their energy strategies. 👉 Redirect investment: Global renewable investments of USD 570 billion must rise to USD 1.5 trillion annually to meet demand, with a focus on equitable finance for underserved nations. 👉 Scale energy efficiency: A seven-fold increase in investment is crucial to achieve the 4% annual improvement, leveraging #digital for greater impact. COP29 presents a decisive moment for global action. What policy shifts or innovations do you think would make the biggest impact? ⚡️ #EnergyForDevelopment #COP29 #AI - Cassie Flynn, Francesco La Camera, Dario Liguti, African Development Bank Group, Vikram Singh, Andrei Covatariu, Riad Meddeb, Fatih Birol, International Energy Agency (IEA), Adam Rogers, Laurel Patterson, Francesco Corvaro, UNDP Rome Centre, Asma Rouabhia, Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP)

Decarbonization and Net-Zero Targets Driving CCS Initiatives in the GCC The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries are making significant strides toward decarbonization, with carbon capture and storage (CCS) playing a pivotal role in their journey to net-zero emissions. As nations such as the UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Bahrain set ambitious climate goals, CCS has become a key technology in achieving these targets. A Bold Vision for the Future UAE & Oman’s 2050 Targets: Both nations have committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, positioning CCS as a critical solution to reduce industrial emissions in sectors like oil and gas, cement, and petrochemicals. Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain’s 2060 Goals: While Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Bahrain have set their sights on 2060 for achieving net-zero, they are equally committed to utilizing CCS as part of their long-term strategy to decarbonize industries. How CCS is Leading the Charge Capturing Industrial Emissions: The UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain are investing heavily in CCS technologies to capture CO₂ from high-emission industries, particularly in oil and gas production, which are central to their economies. Seamless Integration with Existing Infrastructure: Many of these countries are integrating CCS into their existing infrastructure, making it more cost-effective and efficient. Expanding Carbon Utilization: The captured CO₂ is not only being stored but also utilized for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) and converting it into useful products, creating a circular carbon economy. Opportunities for Investors and Innovators Attractive Investment Landscape: As demand for decarbonization technologies grows, investors have a unique opportunity to capitalize on the expanding CCS market in the GCC. Tech Collaboration: The GCC’s push for CCS offers a platform for startups and incubators to collaborate on cutting-edge technologies, shaping the future of sustainable energy. These ambitious net-zero targets across the GCC are not just aspirational—they are setting the stage for a transformative shift in how the region approaches both sustainability and industrial growth. #NetZeroGreenBharat #CarbonHydrogenX #CCSInitiatives #NetZeroTargets #GCCClimateGoals #CarbonCapture #SustainableFuture #Decarbonization #EnergyTransition #CleanTech #CarbonCredits #ClimateAction

🇺🇳 COP29 Azerbaijan: 🇦🇿Baku is preparing for the #Hydrogen Pledge 🇦🇿 The government of #Azerbaijan presiding the world climate conference 2024 prepares for the Hydrogen pledge. 🇦🇪 After the very successful COP28 UAE in Dubai where the tripling of #renewable energies was pledged combined with the doubling of energy efficiency this COP will take care of HOW to do this. 💚 Green Energy needs #storage and cheap #transmission in order to contribute massively to the energy transition. 💶💵💴 Transporting renewables via #molecules is at least eight times cheaper than via electrons. This is why two #infrastructures will be cheaper than one. 📢 It was an honour to articulate this clearly in a contribution to COP presidency’s event on hydrogen. 🙏 Thanks for the invitation to this very prestigious gathering paving the way for our globe’s 🌐 future. 🌰 Here’s my little contribution in a nutshell: Hydrogen Council Ivana Jemelkova Roland Roesch Samir Valiyev Javid Abdullayev James Walker Nicola Melchiotti Amy Chang Jillian Evanko Arturo Gonzalo Aizpiri Manuel Andresh Anoud Alnaqbi Dr. Cord Landsmann International Energy Agency (IEA) Worley Chart Industries, Inc. Some more updates on the renewable energy sector in the UAE. COP28 UAE and International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) have announced a joint initiative to establish an annual report series. This series will monitor progress and offer recommendations for achieving key energy goals set out in the UAE Consensus during COP28. 🌍 The target is ambitious – tripling renewable power capacity and doubling energy efficiency by 2030 — a crucial part of the global response to climate change. The UAE Consensus also emphasizes the need for a just and equitable transition away from fossil fuels, aiming for net-zero emissions by 2050. 🎯 This annual report series, led by IRENA, will be key in tracking progress and ensuring that these ambitious commitments are transformed into concrete action. This collaboration is an example of a nation leading the climate change movement which will inspire many other nations to follow. Inspiring and driven leaders like Dr. Sultan Al Jaber are pushing for more change to be implemented for tangible results that we can achieve. It is truly exceptional that the country is moving towards a greener future, and I look forward to seeing the report. 🌟 #COP28 #IRENA #RenewableEnergy #ClimateChange #UAEConsensus #EnergyEfficiency #Sustainability #NetZero
