On December 3rd, our United Nations Economic Commission for Europe | UNECE Sustainable Energy 'Digitalization in Energy' Task Force will be in #Bangkok for a full day of capacity-building workshop on digitalization in energy. We are looking forward to welcoming in-person participation, as well as virtual participants (see links below). The event is part of the United Nations ESCAP's '13th International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development' and is also developed in partnership with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). The workshop will explore the impact of shifting from centralized, analog energy systems to distributed digital economies in energy provision. This will involve examining the potential of local generation, distributed storage, and the integration of modern technologies, to enhance the sustainability, resilience, accessibility, and fairness of energy services for both power suppliers and end-users. Details about our workshop (we're still finalizing the full agenda) and registration for virtual participation are available here: https://lnkd.in/gW2BSsJ6 In-person registration: https://lnkd.in/gksgrkGS Dario Liguti, Iva Brkic, Elizabeth Massey, Stefan M. EAE's Czech and Slovak national member associations CZB and OZ ZPZ hold their first ETICS conference in Brno/CZ 25-26 September 2024. On day 1 Pavel Svoboda, President of CZB, and Prof. Zuzana Sternova, President of OZ ZPZ and EAE Vice-President, provided interesting overviews of latest developments in both ETICS markets. EAE Managing Director Ralf Pasker explained the important role energy-efficiency renovations of Europe's building stock must play to achieve the EU2030 objectives before giving some examples from developements in other European ETICS markets. Experts gave presentations about manifold aspects related to implementation of the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) and Energy Performance of Buildeings Directive (EPBD) in both countries. It was encouraging to observe that the efficiency-first principle is considered. Adjustment of requirements is aligned with technical assistance, financial support and - often forgotten - information campaigns. Finally, Pavel Svoboda handed over some copies of the Energy Efficiency Guide 2024 (see https://lnkd.in/eyEeyYXE) to Mgr. Petr Holub, Senior Director, Climate Protection Section, Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic. #ETICS #EED #EPBD #energyefficiency #renovation

This year’s EMPA is taking place at the 𝑮𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒂 𝑰𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒕𝒖𝒕𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝑴𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑷𝒖𝒃𝒍𝒊𝒄 𝑨𝒅𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 (𝑮𝑰𝑴𝑷𝑨). This is the biggest EMPA to date with 90 participants joining us in Accra for the next two weeks to discuss how open-source models can be used to improve planning practices and speed up the process of achieving the energy sector’s targets in their countries. For yet another year, Andreas Sahlberg, Ben Stewart, Fitsum S. KEBEDE, PhD and myself will be delivering the GEP-OnSSET track. Colleagues from 𝐌𝐨𝐳𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞, 𝐒𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐚 𝐋𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞, 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐮𝐝𝐚𝐧, and 𝐆𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐚 are joining us to collectively explore how geospatial data and modelling can be used to enhance planning for achieving universal access electricity. Thanks to ESMAP - Energy Sector Management Assistance Program and Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) (among many other partners) for supporting this initiative that – I feel – pushes the sector forward; and great to see the open-source energy modelling community steadily growing in SSA! 😊 #sdg7 #spatialdatascience #dataforgood #gis #energyaccess #opensource #qgis #capacitybuilding #onsset #globalelectrificationplatform #ccg #integratedenergyplanning

Two case studies I’m proud of: 1️⃣ Road Sector Policy Conference – Helped facilitate a national conference to improve transport infrastructure using tech-driven strategies. The Road Sector Policy Conference was held on September 23-24, 2024, at the Windhoek Country Club, focusing on the theme: "Strengthening Institutional Capacity for a Sustainable Road Sector." The event brought together key stakeholders to tackle critical challenges and pave the way for a more robust, efficient transportation system in Namibia—recognized by the World Economic Forum for having some of the highest quality roads in Africa. 2️⃣ Namibia Green Hydrogen Conference – Assisted in organizing this groundbreaking event, positioning Namibia as a leader in sustainable energy. The Namibia Green Hydrogen Conference 2022, held on August 16-17, sought to establish Namibia as a leader in the green hydrogen sector. Organized by the Economic Association of Namibia, alongside the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board and the Hanns Seidel Foundation, the event attracted approximately 500 stakeholders, including policymakers, academics, and industry representatives.
