Russia just fined Google about a Gagillion Bazillion dollars for blocking specific Russian channels. The actual number is two undecillion rubles or $20 decillion, which is many orders of magnitude higher than the global GDP of $100 trillion. Of course, Google no longer operates in Russia so there isn’t a real material concern. But in practical terms, it would seem to be a real risk for any tech company to try to work in a country that will literally try to seize all your assets. https://lnkd.in/gMFxN6fe

As Russia continues to live in a parrallel universe, they have now fined Google $20,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000. That's a lot of 0's... A #Russian court has ruled that #Google owes #Russian media stations around $20 #decillion in #fines for #blocking their content, and the #fines #couldgetbigger. To put that into perspective, the #WorldBank estimates global #GDP as around $100 trillion, which is peanuts compared to the prospective fine. Google might be one of the most valuable businesses on the planet, but even if Sundar Pichai rummages around the back of the sofa he won't be able to raise the funds to pay the penalty. The bizarre amount has been calculated after a four-year court case that started after YouTube banned the ultra-#nationalist Russian channel #Tsargrad in 2020 in response to the #USsanctions imposed against its owner. Following #Putin's #illegal #invasion of #Ukraine in 2022 more channels were added to the banned list and 17 stations are now suing. https://lnkd.in/ebthZMfR

Glups! #Russia fines #Google more money than there is in entire world A Russian court has fined Google two undecillion roubles - a two followed by 36 zeroes - for restricting Russian state media channels on YouTube. In dollar terms that means the tech giant has been told to pay $20,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000. Despite being one of the world's wealthiest companies, that is considerably more than the $2 trillion Google is worth. In fact, it is far greater than the world’s total GDP, which is estimated by the International Monetary Fund to be $110 trillion. https://lnkd.in/eYyHe7it

Terrible #news for Alphabet Google starting with a Russia court fines Google $20 decillion dollars and the fines could get larger especially if interest added to the fines if delays by Google in paying the fines, begs the question what could/would Russia and this Russian court do if Alphabet Google does Not pay up? https://lnkd.in/es8GZNca The US National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) accuses Alphabet Google of violating labor law by requesting staff to "refrain" from discussing their #antitrust case, so big fines and sanctions probably coming soon https://lnkd.in/e_SpJva9 I offer high-paid solutions. #BigTech LinkedIn Fox Business Network LinkedIn News #economy #finance #ceo #cfo #cio #executive George Anders #coo #economist #trader #shareholder #investor J.P. Despite being one of the world's wealthiest companies, that is considerably more than the $2 trillion Google is worth. In fact, it is far greater than the world’s total GDP, which is estimated by the International Monetary Fund to be $110 trillion. Russia media outlet RBC reports the fine on Google relates to the restriction of content of 17 Russian media channels on YouTube. While this started in 2020, it escalated after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine two years later. That saw most Western companies pull out of Russia, with doing business there also tightly restricted by sanctions. Russian media outlets were also banned in Europe - prompting retaliatory measures from Moscow. In 2022, Google’s local subsidiary was declared bankrupt and the company has stopped offering its commercial services in Russia, such as advertising. However, its products are not completely banned in the country. This development is the latest escalation between Russia and the US tech giant. In May, 2021, Russia’s media regulator Roskomnadzor accused Google of restricting YouTube access to Russian media outlets, including RT and Sputnik, and supporting "illegal protest activity". Then, in July, 2022, Russia fined Google 21.1bn rouble (£301m) for failing to restrict access to what it called "prohibited" material about the war in Ukraine and other content. There is virtually no press freedom in Russia, with independent news outlets and freedom of expression severely curtailed. #russianews #techupdate #google #googlefined #russiafinesgoogle #finance #financeupdate

There is no denying the magnitude of the recent court ruling against #Google. A Russian court has fined Google $20 decillion. The case started in 2020 when Google banned the Tsargrad channel due to US sanctions. More Russian channels were banned after Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine. The Russian court ordered Google to restore access, threatening progressive fines. Google’s Russian entity filed for bankruptcy in June 2022. It was declared in November 2023. Zvezda and 16 other stations sued Google for removing content from YouTube. The court imposed a daily fine, doubling weekly. This led to the astronomical sum. Google is unlikely to pay the fine. Alphabet, Google's parent company, remains unconcerned. This case highlights the tension between tech giants and national regulations. It also shows the lengths some countries will go to enforce their laws. Such fines are symbolic and often unenforceable. But they send a strong message to international corporations. Google's response will be closely watched 🌐 The outcome could influence future cases between nations and tech companies. In the end, this case is a reminder of the complex world we live in. It shows the power struggle between nations and global corporations. 🌍 Stay informed and keep an eye on these developments.

Google loses a mere 100 million dollars to Putin. Excerpt "Russia has demanded Google pay a fine worth more than the world’s GDP for blocking pro-Kremlin media outlets. Judges in Moscow are seeking around US$20 decillion from the technology giant, many times the estimated US$100-trillion size of the global economy. If written out in full, the fine would be 20 followed by 33 zeros. The penalty, which far eclipses Google’s own US$2-trillion market value, comes after the US technology business barred pro-Moscow propaganda channel Tsargrad TV, which is owned by oligarch Konstantin Malofeev, from YouTube four years ago. The Telegraph revealed in August that bailiffs acting for Moscow had seized more than US$100 million from the bankrupt entity to fund Putin’s war machine. On Tuesday, Google reported a 15pc increase in its revenues to $88.3 billion for the three months ending in September, sending its shares up 5pc in after-hours trading in New York." #russia #google #youtube https://lnkd.in/g-bkwVTk

1moNo the idea is easy - if you want to hurt russian as google did - you will never make any money in russia, so be clever and try to fit in russian laws. Google lost 150M+ market giving it fully to yandex. They were making around $300M each year russia, now they lost it. Is it worth blocking few youtube accounts for $300M? i dont think so.
