Google loses a mere 100 million dollars to Putin. Excerpt "Russia has demanded Google pay a fine worth more than the world’s GDP for blocking pro-Kremlin media outlets. Judges in Moscow are seeking around US$20 decillion from the technology giant, many times the estimated US$100-trillion size of the global economy. If written out in full, the fine would be 20 followed by 33 zeros. The penalty, which far eclipses Google’s own US$2-trillion market value, comes after the US technology business barred pro-Moscow propaganda channel Tsargrad TV, which is owned by oligarch Konstantin Malofeev, from YouTube four years ago. The Telegraph revealed in August that bailiffs acting for Moscow had seized more than US$100 million from the bankrupt entity to fund Putin’s war machine. On Tuesday, Google reported a 15pc increase in its revenues to $88.3 billion for the three months ending in September, sending its shares up 5pc in after-hours trading in New York." #russia #google #youtube https://lnkd.in/g-bkwVTk

A significant ruling by a Russian court has imposed a fine of $7.5 billion on Google. This unprecedented penalty is attributed to Google's decision to restrict access to Russian state media on its YouTube platform. This ruling is part of a broader trend where Russian authorities are increasingly targeting foreign tech firms, aiming to assert control over digital platforms and media narratives within the country. The court's ruling reflects the ongoing tensions between Russia and Western tech companies, particularly in the context of the war in Ukraine and the broader geopolitical landscape. The implications of this ruling could have far-reaching effects on how tech companies operate in Russia and their willingness to comply with local regulations. https://lnkd.in/drnDggMb

Glups! #Russia fines #Google more money than there is in entire world A Russian court has fined Google two undecillion roubles - a two followed by 36 zeroes - for restricting Russian state media channels on YouTube. In dollar terms that means the tech giant has been told to pay $20,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000. Despite being one of the world's wealthiest companies, that is considerably more than the $2 trillion Google is worth. In fact, it is far greater than the world’s total GDP, which is estimated by the International Monetary Fund to be $110 trillion. https://lnkd.in/eYyHe7it

Russia is demanding an astronomical sum from Google, one of the world’s leading tech giants, which reportedly owes the Kremlin more than 2 undecillion rubles -- a 2 followed by 36 zeroes -- for refusing to pay fines incurred after blocking pro-Russian YouTube channels. The staggering penalty, equal to about $20 decillion (or $20 billion trillion trillion), vastly surpasses the size of the global economy. By comparison, the world’s GDP stands at around $110 trillion, according to IMF figures, while Google’s parent company, Alphabet, has a market value of approximately $2 trillion. Russian state news agency TASS reported that a court had previously ordered Google to unblock the channels, many of which have been restricted since 2022, or face exponentially increasing fines that double each week. When asked about the lawsuit, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov admitted he “can’t even pronounce this figure” but said the amount was “symbolic,” criticizing Google for restricting Russian broadcasters on its platform. Google, in its latest earnings report, acknowledged “ongoing legal matters” concerning its Russian business, specifically related to compounding civil judgments on account terminations, including for sanctioned parties. The company stated that it does not anticipate these issues will impact its earnings materially. Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Google scaled back its operations in Russia, though services like Search and YouTube remain available. In the months after the invasion, Google’s Russian subsidiary filed for bankruptcy and suspended most commercial operations after the government took control of its bank accounts. #Russia #demands #Google #hails #Govt #May #until #Amnesty #visa #Scheme #smog #247newsupdate

As Russia continues to live in a parrallel universe, they have now fined Google $20,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000. That's a lot of 0's... A #Russian court has ruled that #Google owes #Russian media stations around $20 #decillion in #fines for #blocking their content, and the #fines #couldgetbigger. To put that into perspective, the #WorldBank estimates global #GDP as around $100 trillion, which is peanuts compared to the prospective fine. Google might be one of the most valuable businesses on the planet, but even if Sundar Pichai rummages around the back of the sofa he won't be able to raise the funds to pay the penalty. The bizarre amount has been calculated after a four-year court case that started after YouTube banned the ultra-#nationalist Russian channel #Tsargrad in 2020 in response to the #USsanctions imposed against its owner. Following #Putin's #illegal #invasion of #Ukraine in 2022 more channels were added to the banned list and 17 stations are now suing. https://lnkd.in/ebthZMfR

Russia just fined Google about a Gagillion Bazillion dollars for blocking specific Russian channels. The actual number is two undecillion rubles or $20 decillion, which is many orders of magnitude higher than the global GDP of $100 trillion. Of course, Google no longer operates in Russia so there isn’t a real material concern. But in practical terms, it would seem to be a real risk for any tech company to try to work in a country that will literally try to seize all your assets. https://lnkd.in/gMFxN6fe

A Russian court hit Google with a fine larger than the world's GDP ● A Russian court fined Google for not restoring YouTube accounts linked to Russian TV channels. ● The fine is about $20.6 decillion — a figure many orders of magnitude beyond the world's GDP. ● Google's Russian entity filed for bankruptcy in 2022, leaving few ways to extract payment. A legal dispute between Google and Russia over suspended YouTube accounts has led to a fine so large that it exceeds all the money on Earth. Ivan Morozov, a Moscow-based lawyer, told the state-run TASS newswire that a Russian court ordered the tech giant to restore Russian media accounts on YouTube, a Google-owned company. He said that Google's failure to do so has resulted in a fine that had been regularly doubling for years. There is no cap on the total, the lawyer said. Morozov, who did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider, said that the cumulative amount has now reached 2 undecillion rubles — an almost unfathomable figure. At the current exchange rate, the fine is equivalent to about $20.6 decillion. A decillion is a figure followed by 33 zeros — which, in this case, puts the fine at $20,604,600,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000. To put this into perspective, the world's GDP is equivalent to about $105 trillion, a minuscule fraction of the fine. More: https://lnkd.in/d7_yerka #Google #Business

Despite being one of the world's wealthiest companies, that is considerably more than the $2 trillion Google is worth. In fact, it is far greater than the world’s total GDP, which is estimated by the International Monetary Fund to be $110 trillion. Russia media outlet RBC reports the fine on Google relates to the restriction of content of 17 Russian media channels on YouTube. While this started in 2020, it escalated after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine two years later. That saw most Western companies pull out of Russia, with doing business there also tightly restricted by sanctions. Russian media outlets were also banned in Europe - prompting retaliatory measures from Moscow. In 2022, Google’s local subsidiary was declared bankrupt and the company has stopped offering its commercial services in Russia, such as advertising. However, its products are not completely banned in the country. This development is the latest escalation between Russia and the US tech giant. In May, 2021, Russia’s media regulator Roskomnadzor accused Google of restricting YouTube access to Russian media outlets, including RT and Sputnik, and supporting "illegal protest activity". Then, in July, 2022, Russia fined Google 21.1bn rouble (£301m) for failing to restrict access to what it called "prohibited" material about the war in Ukraine and other content. There is virtually no press freedom in Russia, with independent news outlets and freedom of expression severely curtailed. #russianews #techupdate #google #googlefined #russiafinesgoogle #finance #financeupdate
