Less than a week ago, we asked for support mapping buildings in Southern Lebanon to create a comprehensive pre-conflict dataset, with only 37% of the project mapped and validated. Today, we've almost reached 100%! We are infinitely grateful to all the 58 contributors who heard our call and took some time to map this project. We are just a couple of tasks away from completion! More projects will be posted soon, so keep an eye open for them. Today at the European Parliament MEPs met with signatories of the Mission Charter. MEPs had the opportunity to hear first hand about the actions charter signatories have undertaken, in order to protect and restore the health of our marine and freshwater ecosystems. They could also explore the needs and opportunities that have arisen as a result of Mission Ocean activities, as well as find out what is needed to turn ideas into concrete actions in places where European citizens live and vote. Pledging an action to the Mission Charter is the vital first step that European citizens, researchers, investors, businesses and public authorities must make if we are to mobilise resources and take collective action in support of the Mission’s objectives. 🌍💧 This week, CEOs of the Water, Peace & Security (WPS) Partnership — IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, Deltares, HCSS - The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies, World Resources Institute, International Alert, and Wetlands International — met to reiterate their commitment to the partnership. Eddy Moors, Rector at IHE Delft, said: "It is becoming increasingly clear that the climate and water challenges we face are making the work of the WPS partnership invaluable. Together, we strive to turn cycles of water-related conflict into cycles of cooperation on water, through dialogue, training, and awareness." The Water, Peace and Security (WPS) Partnership uses advanced technology to address the global water crisis and its impact on communities, ecosystems, and security. Founded in 2018, WPS creates tools that assist in identifying and mitigating water-related security risks. By fostering awareness and understanding, we support proactive measures in vulnerable regions like Mali, Iraq, Ethiopia, and Kenya. Our efforts aim to not only prevent water tension from escalating into conflict but also to transform water challenges into collaborative peacebuilding opportunities. Join us on Friday for a webinar on 'Strengthening Research & Civil Society Collaborations'. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dbTyADkv Civil society organisations are critical in shaping and developing support for older persons in Southern Africa. By hearing from two expert colleagues in the field,Femada Shamam & Sivuyisiwe Toto, the seminar explores how the relationship between researchers, CSOs and activists can be strengthened. The seminar will discuss some of the lessons learned from collaborative approaches in this area and discuss what is needed to strengthen these relationships. The key focus of the seminar is to think about the way in which researchers and CSOs working with older persons in the region can collaborate in a way that facilitates improved conversations with government in the development of policies in this area.
