Help Us Create Homes for Women and Children Affected by Violence 🏠 💜 In the last 3 years (1st of July 2020 to 30th April 2024), we at the Hobart Women's Shelter have witnessed a disturbing increase in the demand for our services. Over 4379 women and their children have sought emergency accommodation from us - and we have only been able to support 929 of those women and children. That’s 8 in 10 people we have had to turn away due to always being at capacity. Tasmania’s housing crisis is particularly damaging for women and children. Women and children are staying longer at our Shelter as there are limited affordable housing options available. Unfortunately, many of these women and their children will stay in, or return to, violent situations where they are at risk of experiencing further trauma, injury, and in some cases death. The number one reason why women will not leave a violent situation is the fear of being homeless. In 2022, we embarked on an ambitious project to build 25 new long-term homes to create additional housing pathways and help alleviate the bottleneck in our service. We’ve completed our first two homes, showcased here, and received two more land donations for future development. While we have achieved so much already, there is still a long way to go. You can help us create beautiful, safe homes and housing pathways for women and children. Buy a Brick today and help build someone's future. All donations over $2 are tax-deductible. https://lnkd.in/gHMz5Bja #genderbasedviolence #genderbasedviolenceawareness #hobart #tasmania #nonprofitleadership #philanthropy #EOFY #advocacy #endviolence #homelessness #donatetoday #communityengagement #corporateresponsibility #socialimpact

With all that is going on in this world and after all that has happened in history, one thing that will never change is "Our Children" cannot help themselves. We need to protect the children on Earth, no matter what they look like or where they are from, or what color or sex they are... This morning, it was my blessing to meet up with Gina Martinez with Texas-Based CHILDREN AT RISK at Sundt Construction's corporate office and give her a tour and discuss their non-profit and the SUNDT FOUNDATION. Children At Risk serves as a catalyst for change to improve the quality of life for children through strategic research, public policy analysis, education, collaboration, and advocacy. They work so hard to make policy recommendations to policy makers that make the biggest impact for our children. Alarming stats show that: · 333 million children live in poverty. · 12 million children die before reaching their fifth year. · 100 million homeless children living in the streets. · 250,000 children die every week from diseases and malnutrition. · 2 million children are objects of sexual abuse - child pornography and demand for child prostitutes has increased globally. · 20 million children are refugees or internally displaced in their homeland. · 10 million children are child slaves. Since 1890, Sundt Construction has been known as the contractor with heart having been known to give back to our communities where we live and work. In 1999, the Sundt Foundation was established where our employee-owners contribute their own dollars which is then matched dollar-for-dollar and given to charitable organizations like Children at Risk. Our annual survey allows our employee-owners to chose where they want their contributions spent and it is no surprise that every year we focus on Children Issues (sick children, homeless, children, abused, children), elderly, homeless, veterans, and domestic violence. Sundt Foundation has given over 14M in grants to local 501(c)3 organizations since inception. #charity #501c3nonprofit #childreninneed #givingback #concreteconstruction #industrialconstruction #buildingconstruction #transportationindustry #renewableenergy

Every day, systemic inequities force Native American and Black families into impossible choices. Generations of housing discrimination, unjust policies, and economic exclusion have left too many of our neighbors without a safe place to call home. For families experiencing homelessness, the impact is devastating—children struggle in school, parents face barriers to stability, and dreams are deferred for yet another generation. But we believe in the power of community. We believe in justice. We believe every family deserves not just shelter, but the dignity, stability, and hope that comes with having a home. This year, we have an opportunity to create lasting change. Your donation helps us open doors for BIPOC families, providing safe, climate-resilient housing where they can heal, rebuild, and thrive. Don’t wait until Giving Tuesday to make a difference. Help us reach our year-end goal today—because no family should have to wait for a safe place to call home. Donate now: www.just-homes.org Share this post to amplify the mission. Together, we can ensure justice and housing for all. #YourSupportOpensDoors #HousingIsJustice #BIPOCHousingMatters #DonateToday #JustHomes #oakland #California #unhoused #Bipoc

On the frontline, we meet women like Shelley every day—women escaping domestic violence who are confronted with a broken system. They face two unacceptable choices: homelessness or returning to their abusers. Even if they have the means to afford accommodation, the availability is almost non-existent. Neither choice is acceptable. The system is broken. It is failing these women when they need it the most, leaving them without the support they desperately need. At 4 Voices, we have over 300 dedicated volunteers who give their time to help women navigate complicated processes to access emergency support or find their way into overflowing crisis shelters to stay off the streets. It’s an overwhelming task; doing it alone is nearly impossible, especially when you’re scared and vulnerable. We helped Shelley in many ways, but countless others still need our help. We have to do more. That’s why we need your help. We need to get a cuppa into the hands of thousands of women experiencing their toughest times. We need to be there—to listen, care, and be there when the system can’t. Together, we can make a difference for women like Shelley. Learn more about Shelley: https://lnkd.in/gJkvMGmY It cost us $4 to put the first cuppa into Shelley’s hands. Join us in supporting these women. Your help can transform lives by donating at https://lnkd.in/gTFHesvR 💜 Help us change lives, one cuppa at a time. #4voices #changecanstartwithacuppa #Donate

In reality, these rights are too often not experienced by children and youth with FASD and their families. Caregivers often feel that FASD is seen as an “undeserving disability” and is frequently a diagnosis that leads to nowhere. Services and supports are few and far between, and access to government-funded supports is often based on complicated processes and eligibility criteria through which those with FASD rarely make the cut. Families sometimes look to charitable organizations for bits of help. Still, the paperwork to get any support is often daunting, and many caregivers do not have the capacity to jump through all the hoops. Even when they spend countless hours seeking services and completing paperwork, there is no guarantee these families will get any support. If they do, it is rarely consistent or sustainable. 📗Get more information from Hands, not Hurdles: Helping Children with FASD and their Families - key messages for community service providers. 👉Find this and other books, brochures and handouts on our site under “Resources”: https://buff.ly/3vEoiIX #FASDawareness #FetalAlcoholSpectrumDisorder #FASDsupport #BrainBasedParenting

Our friends @Justlife carried out research into women’s experiences of homelessness in Brighton & Hove. It’s a story of domestic violence, unhealthy relationships, complex feelings around motherhood and lack of basic safety while in temporary accommodation. We’re fundraising this week to create a year-long programme of free dance classes with and for women who have experienced homelessness. Everything you donate before midday on Tuesday 26 March will be doubled by @BigGive here: https://lnkd.in/e5jSDYD3 Thankyou 🙏 #ArtsForImpact #homelessness #danceforwellbeing #womeninrecovery #fundraising #Brighton&Hove Video description: A video showing roads, streets and cars with text about three things you might not know about temporary accommodation: - it's often not temporary. The shortage in social housing means people can wait years for their own home - living conditions can be poor. Common complaints include damp, overcrowding, infestations and feeling unsafe - people in temporary accommodation are often not considered homeless because they have a roof over their heads

As the year draws to a close, many of us look forward to the comforts of home and time with loved ones. But for the countless women, non-binary people and children who come to Juno for support, this season is marked by struggle rather than celebration. Many are forced to leave everything behind to escape violence, facing homelessness and uncertainty. This holiday season, we’re asking for your help to create a safe, stable foundation for them to rebuild. Our goal is to raise $20,000 to ensure no one has to face this period with uncertainty. Here’s how your gift can help: 💜 $50 could provide a voucher for groceries and other essentials. 💜$250 could cover a night of emergency accommodation for a family in crisis. 💜$500 secures storage for belongings while we support someone to search for permanent housing. 💜An incredibly generous gift of $1,000 could offer a week of safety for a family or cover the cost of movers to set up in a new home. This holiday season, please stand with Juno and help create a safe future for women, non-binary people and children impacted by family violence and homelessness. Donate here: https://lnkd.in/dwZbar28 #HolidayGiving #EndHomelessness #FamilyViolence

Invest in the lives of women in our community. ck architecture is proud to be part of the May 2024 Home. Hope. Horizon. Charity Appeal. During May, donations will be matched by Karinya’s generous partners, up to the first $30,000 donated , making $60,000 raised! Women who are pregnant or early parenting face heightened vulnerabilities. Women are at greater risk of domestic violence, homelessness, mental ill-health and poverty during this period than almost any other time in their lives. There are women pregnant or with babies and who are homeless in the ACT. 1 in 3 first time mothers will experience domestic violence by the time their child is 4. Pregnancy and early parenting can also be incredibly isolating; at the very time where women are most in need of a positive community around them. However, this period can also be a time of change, and of hope. For many women, their calculus changes during pregnancy, and they want to chart a different path forward during this period – for themselves and their children. It is also the time where positive support – from services, community, friends and family – can have a powerful impact for a woman, and the journey she charts for her children. One month into our three-month campaign to raise funds for The Haven - Nepean Women's Shelter and raise awareness of Domestic & Family Violence (DFV). According to the 2022 report from The National Homicide Monitoring Program, in 2019-20, there were 45 intimate partner homicides; 36 of these were female victims (80 per cent). This averages to approximately one woman being killed by an intimate partner every 10 days (Plan 4 Women’s Safety 2022). DFV remains the leading cause of homelessness for women and children. This is unacceptable anywhere in the world, but in Australia, we have no excuse. The work and funds required to keep the doors open for women's shelters aren’t easy. That's why I've chosen to support The Haven - Nepean Women's Shelter and the incredible work they do in providing shelter for Women & Children. You can help me raise much-needed funds with little effort on your part. Simply download, stream, and share my song "DON’T TURN BACK," and all royalties will be donated to them for three months. It doesn’t always require big moves to make a big impact, so please join me in raising funds and awareness. Perhaps you have a gift or skill that can help. Take a moment to think about what you can do. Together, we can find solutions to the issues impacting our world. https://lnkd.in/g3GXt-Er #DFVPreventionMonth #CommunitySupport #TheHavenNepeanWomensShelter #empoweringwomen #endviolence #endviolenceagainstwomen #endviolenceagainstchildren #domesticviolence #endhomelessness

Our application inbox is consistently filled with single mothers facing eviction, living in shelters or living on the streets, with their children. Homeless and trying to survive without basic necessities while courageously trying to navigate securing safe housing. Did you know that eviction is second leading cause of homelessness in families with children? According to @National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty, nationally, nearly two out of five people became homeless through involuntary displacement from their housing and 75% of those households end up with less than half of their income to pay for necessities such as food, medicine, transportation, or childcare. The need is great, and the potential impact continues to rise, as many unfunded single mothers and children currently need assistance. Don’t feel obligated, but if you’d like to create impact, you can choose to donate to our Basic Needs Fund at upliftingwomen.org/donate to support a single mom in crisis and facing eviction. #directfinancialimpact #nonprofit #womensupportingwomen #supportwithinreach
