Advertising Awareness is a crucial metric that measures the extent to which consumers are familiar with a brand’s advertising. Colourtext's meta-analysis of the CampaignFX Ireland database shows that Advertising Awareness is 26% higher for brands that advertise on radio. Long term studies like Radiogauge in the UK have found that Ad Awareness seems to be particularly sensitive to the effects of radio campaigns, and it’s reasonable to ask why. Historically, exposure to radio advertising has been shown to boost awareness of a brand's marketing activity across other media channels. This is often called radio’s ‘virtual TV’ or virtual ‘digital effect’, and we see clear evidence for that here. Recently the WeTransfer Advertising team gathered in Amsterdam to kick off the year and to welcome our new skipper, Dara Nasr, alongside new colleagues in our New York, Paris and London teams. During the week we were blessed to have some outside expertise help bring some perspective, insight and inspiration. I want to thank these contributors as well as share some of the key takeaways. 🏆 Declaring a bold vision for the year ahead creates accountability. "If you throw your hat over the wall you have no choice but to follow it". Using the The Fast Forward Group technique to imagine what success looks like one year from today helps crystallise the steps required. Thanks to Deborah Narder for helping us throw our hats over the wall. 👒 🎩 🧢 🔬 The amount of wasted spend in digital advertising is staggering. The recent Association of National Advertisers report estimates $20bn wasted investment. Against this backdrop, Ruben Schreurs of Ebiquity plc shared brilliant and encouraging insights into progress across the industry to better evaluation of quality and effectiveness. And our own Matthew Butts shed some fresh light on WeTransfer's Attention Advantage with promise of research gold to come later this year. 💚 The media supply chain is under growing scrutiny. Changes are needed to measure, reduce and mitigate against negative environmental or societal impacts. But this has to be done alongside demonstrating effectiveness. We had a great insights from Noémy Tur, Michael Hanbury-Williams of UM London and Andy Griffiths into how to make responsible media and marketing the norm. 📖 Don't believe that inner voice that says you're not creative. We all have stories to tell, and telling stories helps us, and those around us, see things from a new perspective. A fundamental aspect of creativity.
