I’m not sure when I lost confidence in releasing songs. I’ve been writing and recording songs since I was 18 years old, and releasing stuff in some shape or form since then. It’s always been my way of creating a time stamp; when I listen back I’m straight back to where I was where such and such was written or recorded. I mean…that hasn’t changed; but the lack of vocals, the lack of lyrics, that has. I don’t know whether it was my changing voice, my developing mixing skills or whatever else. Maybe it was because I was concentrating on soundtracks, immersing myself in the animated worlds for which I was writing. So I’ll be posting a song here and there on the socials, maybe telling the story behind it. And expect some new songs at some point, probably released under my Band of One banner. But who knows, there may be the odd collaboration here and there. One thing is for sure: writing and recording songs should be an enjoyable process with no expectation; an expression of creativity to be explored by anyone who has an ounce of music in them. There should be a joy to the process, or why bother? Here’s a cover of a Band of Skulls song I recorded back in 2017 just for the sheer enjoyment of it.
