It’s an insightful profile of an entertainer many of us thought we knew, but what we knew barely scratched the surface. “Louis Armstrong’s Black & Blues” is a wonderful film about a fascinating man, musician, and human being. Directed by Sacha Jenkins and produced by Imagine Documentaries and Apple Original Films, it cuts through the misconceptions that swirled around the man credited as the founding father of jazz and gives him the credit he’s due for forging a place in America’s cultural history despite the many obstacles he had to overcome as a Black man in a time of segregation and Jim Crow laws. Taking the lead from one of his songs "I'm Just Me" the Academy of Country Music today hosted what is an inaugural event "I'm Just Me: A Charley Pride Celebration of Inclusion" to celebrate inclusion in the country music genre and its diverse leaders and champions of today. Presented as partnership between Prime Video & Amazon Studios, Amazon Music, MGM and the Academy of Country Music, the invite-only event hosted by BRELAND recognizes and celebrates 16 honorees who represent Pride’s legacy in country music as leaders in hope, advocacy, and innovation. We like and admire what is captured in this interview with Tiera Kennedy. There is such genuine appreciation from Black artists in the genre who recognize the boost Beyonce's #CowboyCarter project has caused. It's not just the broadening of the genre that occurs; it's also the expansion of creative musical explorations and the fan base that occurs as well.
