No parent suspects that teen dating violence (TVD) affects their child. Yet up to 19% of teens experience sexual or physical dating violence, about half face stalking or harassment, and as many as 65% report experiencing psychological abuse, according to research from the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Report, 2022. "When someone is in an abusive relationship, they might not understand what’s happening or have the experience to know what to do,” says Kaitlin Corson, LMHC. We sat down with Kaitlin to learn more about the warning signs and risk factors for unhealthy or abusive relationships, and how to start a conversation with your teen about their relationship.
