Are 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 a valid approach for rapid urban #energy demand simulation?🏡What if you use them in different #climates or different years? 👉 We find energy signatures to be a powerful approach, if you rely on locally sourced signatures. 👉 Annual signature-based building energy demand estimates result in an error of ~±30% if the signature is spatially transferred from one location to another and can exceed 75%. 👉 When energy signatures are temporally transferred for a different climate, an annual error of only ±5-10% is expected. 📰 Publication: https://lnkd.in/eayBEGAS Massimo Fiorentini | Aarhus University | The Hebrew University of Jerusalem | Energy and Buildings | Jerusalem Center for Urban Innovation (HUJI) #heating #research #innovation #building #energy #builtenvironment #sustainability

Veillon district In the Veillon district of Bussigny, a dynamic transformation is underway on the site formerly occupied by the Veillon VPC building. This vibrant, urban, and innovative district will host housing, a hotel, offices, shops, local services, and leisure activities, all close to public transportation, catering to contemporary lifestyles. For this project, GEOEG designed more than 200 vertical geothermal boreholes, each 300 meters deep, and conducted a Thermal Response Test (TRT) on a test borehole. The on-site thermal response test helped characterize the subsurface’s response to geothermal technologies and validate their design. The design was based on time-dependent three-dimensional thermo-hydraulic simulations over a 50-year period, accurately replicating and considering the thermal interactions between the boreholes and the building’s operations. #UrbanDevelopment #GeothermalEnergy #Sustainability #Innovation #Bussigny #VeillonDistrict #RenewableEnergy #GEOEGProject 📷 farra zoumboulakis & associés 📷 GEOEG

Bio-based Renovation of a Soviet-era building in Ukraine: Introducing the TEPLO project! Ro3kvit: Urban Coalition for Ukraine, ReThink, Neo-Eco Ukraine and MATEK AS are launching a pioneering initiative dedicated to renovating a Soviet-era residential building in the #Chernihiv region in #Ukraine, using prefabricated #biobased panels. The project is supported by the EU LIFE Programme, contributing to the EU's mission to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. TEPLO project focuses on: Energy inefficiency: Upgrading an outdated structure with prefabricated bio-based panels to maximize energy savings and resident well-being. Circular construction: Showcasing the potential of prefabrication and bio-based materials for a sustainable future. Community empowerment: Interactive workshops to promote knowledge exchange and resident participation in the renovation process. TEPLO project aims to showcase the untapped potential of prefabrication and bio-based materials in #Ukraine. In addition, we aspire to equip architects, engineers, and homeowner associations (OSBB) with the knowledge and tools necessary to lead the charge toward circular renovations, fostering a sustainable and energy-efficient future. Stay tuned for the project progress updates! Funded by the European Union. The Great Inga Dam Project, situated on the Congo River in Africa, proposes a series of hydroelectric dams with a combined potential of 40,000 megawatts, offering renewable energy to the continent. It heralds economic growth, regional integration, and improved access to electricity. However, challenges loom in funding, governance, and environmental sustainability. Despite its potential to alleviate energy poverty and stimulate development, the project faces scrutiny over its impact on ecosystems and local communities. Yet, if successfully implemented, it could redefine Africa's energy landscape, ushering in a new era of sustainable power generation and socio-economic progress for the region.

The Super Bowl is indeed sustainable, Super Sustainable! This year’s Super Bowl is being played at the recently constructed Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. All the electricity to power the venue is supplied by Nevada-sourced solar, wind, hydro, and geothermal resources. That’s just part of the story, the venue was certified as ‘LEED Gold in 2023’. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a green building certification program used worldwide. The stadium incorporates several energy efficiency technologies, including a state-of-the-art chiller plant, high efficiency air handling units, energy optimizing lighting (LEDs), and an energy efficient lighting control system. The Stadium’s engineering team is constantly monitoring electrical loads (in real-time) and reviewing energy usage. Go 49ers, Go Chiefs, and Go Sustainable building! #poweringgood #hitachienergy #powergrid #energyefficiency #sustainability #electricity #SuperBowl24 #AllegiantStadium #energymarketintel https://lnkd.in/dDWtHMew

Same view, different energy. King's College Circle at the University of Toronto has transformed…more than 800 feet beneath the surface. As part of the ambitious "Landmark Project," this iconic space is becoming more sustainable and accessible. Beneath the ground, Geosource Energy Inc.’s geoexchange technology will heat and cool the campus with 374 boreholes, making it the largest urban geoexchange project in Canada. Our system will efficiently meet the energy needs of multiple buildings, significantly reducing carbon emissions without altering the landscape above. A greener footprint, with no impact on the ground we walk on. 👣 Contractor: EllisDon – #UofT #UniversityofToronto #TorontoConstruction #SustainableConstruction #ClimateChange #ConstructionIndustry #GeothermalEnergy #RenewableEnergy #SustainableBuilding #GeothermalDrilling #GreenConstruction
