🚢🔁 Connecting Shores : Towards more sustainable corridors, ports and maritime routes 🔁Maritime transport represents the cornerstone of international trade with more than 80% of volumes traded globally transported by ship. At the level of the European Union, 37% of traded volumes transit through sea ports. 🌍Recent events such as the COVID-19 pandemic or the ongoing armed conflicts in Ukraine and in the Red Sea highlight the political and economic impacts of major disruptions in maritime freight. 🤝Against this backdrop, international organizations, governments and other key economic players, notably the private sector, join efforts to develop more efficient, resilient and secure transport corridors and maritime routes. ⚓Ports in particular, as interfaces between land and sea, have a crucial role to play to support international logistics chains and must therefore demonstrate agility 📆 Hence, to support Team Europe’s efforts, Expertise France proposes to organize a dedicated event in Marseille on 15 May 2024 in order to promote a joint reflection amongst European development stakeholders and their international partners on priorities and solutions for the creation of strategic, sustainable and secure transport corridors. 💻 Register here to participate 👉 https://lnkd.in/gKXxEcqX 📍 Cosquer Méditerranée, Esplanade du J4 13002 Marseille 🕘 9 AM – 6 PM AFD - Agence Française de Développement Région Sud - Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Grand Port Maritime de Marseille - Port de Marseille Fos

🚢 Exciting News from EFFSAA! 🌍 The Ethiopian Freight Forwarders and Shipping Agents Association (EFFSAA) has officially submitted a bid to host the prestigious 2027 International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) World Congress. This event attracts over 1,000 global logistics leaders and industry stakeholders, making it a significant opportunity for Ethiopia. While previous bids for the 2022 and 2025 congresses faced challenges due to regional security concerns, EFFSAA President Dawit Woubishet presented a compelling proposal at the recent FIATA meeting in Geneva. Competing against the Czech Republic, Ethiopia's position was strengthened by the withdrawal of bids from Israel and Brazil. Dawit highlighted the importance of securing sponsors and maintaining security to support the bid. The proposal also emphasized the Ethiopian government's support and the many tourist attractions in Addis Ababa. Given that FIATA has only held three congresses in Africa in its 100-year history, Ethiopia's bid is particularly compelling amidst the growing significance of the African Continental Free Trade Area. We eagerly await the host announcement in September 2024 at the FIATA World Congress in Panama City. Fingers crossed for Ethiopia! 🇪🇹✨ #Logistics #FreightForwarding #EFFSAA #FIATA2027 #Ethiopia #GlobalTrade #AfricaRising

Beijing / June 30, 2024 / Global Times Staff — Chinese President Xi Jinping reaffirmed #China’s commitment to advancing its comprehensive strategic partnership with #Peru during a recent state visit by Peruvian President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra. Xi emphasized the importance of completing the Chancay #Port project on schedule, highlighting it as a key example of China-Peru collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative (#BRI), according to Xinhua News Agency. The Chancay Port, located in northern Lima, is a major #infrastructure project spearheaded by China's Cosco Shipping Ports, which holds a 60 percent stake in the terminal. Dubbed "the gateway from South America to Asia," the port is expected to become a crucial #transport and #logistics hub on the South Pacific coast, significantly reducing shipping time between China and Latin America. Juan Carlos Capuñay, former Peruvian Ambassador to China, described the project as a transformative initiative that will enhance Peru’s national infrastructure, fostering greater connectivity both regionally and globally. The port will streamline sea transport, resulting in substantial cost savings for trade between South America and Asia. Despite growing pressure from the US, including concerns voiced by General Laura Richardson, commander of the US Southern Command, Peru remains committed to its strategic partnership with China. The recent decision by the Peruvian government to uphold Cosco Shipping Ports' operating rights for Chancay Port ahead of Boluarte’s visit further solidifies this stance. Peru’s latest diplomatic moves underscore its strategic autonomy and its choice to pursue development through cooperation with China, rather than yielding to external pressures. The Chancay Port project remains a symbol of the win-win collaboration between China and Peru, with far-reaching benefits for the entire Latin American continent.

Will ports be bottlenecks in international trade or generators of development? 🧐 The North Adriatic is a key point for connecting trade flows between the Far East and Europe. It is a geographical area where maritime commodity flows intersect with land transport corridors (W-E, N-S), giving the region a unique strategic advantage. The ports of Venice, Koper, Ravenna, Rijeka, and Trieste, due to natural conditions, agreed on coexistence over a decade ago (NAPA - North Adriatic Port Association) and joint promotion in the global market to be more competitive with the more developed ports in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe. 🚢🏗️ Does this kind of cooperation achieve the desired goals, and what are the challenges and opportunities? These are topics we also address at the Logistics Congress. At the Logistics Congres 2023, Andrej Cah unveiled Luka Koper's ambitious plans for the future, showcasing their vision for development and the promising opportunities ahead. This week, the container terminal at Port of Koper (Luka Koper) handled the one-millionth TEU of the year. This throughput was for the first time exceeded in 2022. If you have goals and are ambitious enough, anything is possible. 🚀 Congratulations to Luka Koper for this achievement! 👏👏 This achievement is even more significant in these complex and logistically challenging times. P.S. What do you think about the future of the North Adriatic ports?
