From an educator lens, we still have much work to do on the responsible AI use piece (trend 3) and in exploring bias, ethics, and equity. Shoutout to Ken Shelton and Dee Lanier's book The Promises and Perils of AI in Education: Ethics and Equity Have Entered The Chat https://amzn.to/4fjsDBL

The third trend here–Responsible AI: The Evolution of Transparency and User Agency–is by far the biggest priority for both businesses and educational institutions. Big tech has long been anything but trustworthy and transparent, so there's a great deal of ground to be made up there. The fact that most AI and LLMs are unethically built on copywritten material and/or small print ignored by users that allows companies to scrape public writing to build AI models certainly doesn't help. This piece mentions the importance of AI literacy, but "literacy" is a moot point if the companies responsible for unleashing AI don't undergird their creation with ethics–and not just what passes as "ethics" in Silicon Valley.

The emergence of agentic AI is not just a technological change; but a transformative moment that will reshape how businesses/ schools function and interact with their teams and customers/students. As we move toward this new era, the actions leaders take today will be vital in navigating the challenges that lie ahead. By preparing for this shift now, we can position ourselves to succeed in an agentic future, where intelligent agents play a key role in helping us achieve our objectives.

As a former educator and lifelong learner, Trend 3 really hits home for me. I believe that the transparency of using AI for students and teachers is going to be crucial to student success and not just depending on another resource to “do the work for you.” Educators are in the mix of a very pivotal moment with bringing AI into the classroom and I believe it’s going to be a very fine line when it comes to plagiarism, creating your own work, and knowing when to use AI as an enhancement. Excited to see how Grammarly helps with transparency and user agency.

I really enjoyed learning about Trend 3: Responsible AI—The Evolution of Transparency and User Agency. While AI is a powerful tool, I have some concerns about the information I share with these tools and how that data is used or stored. However, I appreciate that Grammarly prioritizes responsible AI as a core principle, ensuring that user data is protected, promoting fairness, and maintaining transparency. I value the commitment to building trust through transparency and empowering users to have control over their interactions with AI. The five pillars of responsible AI will help users integrate AI more effectively into both their professional and personal lives.

Love how Grammarly shares their own ROI framework for AI solutions 🤩 The underlying theme, imho, is that AI solutions be utilized with a goal or use case in mind to then measure if it’s impactful or not. For me, the value of Grammarly is just that it effortlessly is there whenever I need it — whether at home or on the go.

I found the section on responsible AI particularly interesting, especially the emphasis on transparency and user agency. This translates to building AI systems that are ethical, aligned with human values, and functional for us as software engineers. We must consider documentation, bias mitigation, user control, and data security throughout development. Building responsible AI makes for more sustainable systems because those systems will be trusted and adopted more readily.

"Boosting AI literacy among employees, customers, and the general public is a shared responsibility across companies. Empower users with resources to interpret AI recommendations, understand its limitations, and recognize when human oversight is necessary" Love this action item and think this is one of the main priorities looking ahead. While I initially was hesitant about using AI for ethical purposes, I think we all have a responsibility to educate and empower ourselves and our people to understand it and recognize that the human element is paramount!

IMHO, the third trend -- Responsible AI: The Evolution of Transparency and User Agency  -- is the biggest priority for most businesses for one simple reason. Nobody wants or needs their reputation to self-combust, deconstruct or end up in tatters.

As someone who works in civics and democracy, I'm most excited about increasing transparency. We are having crucial conversations about how AI will impact things like elections and media, and business leaders need to bring that into focus. Increasing transparency will only help develop people's trust in these new technologies. I appreciate how Grammarly is leading the pack for this particular point, and I am excited to continue following this journey!
