Five reflections after an excellent two days at The UK Charging Infrastructure Symposium last week: 1) The U.K. is tracking well on the exponential growth target of 300,000 public EV charging stations by 2030, up 42% YOY, but the curve is getting steeper 2) There are now over 70 Charge Point Operators (CPOs) in the U.K. with over 40 of them signed up as members of ChargeUK. Some degree of natural market consolidation is expected in the coming years 3) ChargeUK also shared an estimate that there are approximately 930,000 chargers across all domains in the U.K., trending almost 1:1 with the circa 1m externally-chargeable pure BEVs now on U.K. roads 4) LEVI (Local EV Infrastructure) funding has been spent and has been well received, however for many it has been a painful process. The additional £200m pledged in the latest U.K. Budget remains quite vague in its intention. 5) Much work continues around vehicle-to-grid technology, led by Innovate UK to support its uptake. Sciurus and Octopus Powerloop trials saved participants approximately £420 and £840 respectively, albeit the former took place during COVID-19. It was a pleasure to present market content and broader context from S&P Global Mobility's global datasets covering #EV Production, Vehicles in Operation, #Supplychain and #technology.
