He reflected those true experts, with deep knowledge and specialization, are increasingly rare in today’s fast-paced world. This insight has stayed with me, reminding me how valuable both specialization and broad knowledge are in today’s world. Now, at the end of 2024, re-watching this video, I see that this distinction is even more critical, especially in the age of AI. As technology rapidly transforms the world, the need for both experts and well-educated talent has never been higher. In an AI-driven future, will deep expertise or well education be more resilient? On 15 May, members of the Advisory Body on AI came together in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to participate in the GAIN Assembly: Collaborating for Global AI Governance.     AIAB members in attendance, both in person and virtually, included: Alondra Nelson, Amandeep Gill, Anna Abramova, Carme Artigas, Craig Ramlal, Estela Aranha, Latifa Al-Abdulkarim, mohamed farahat, Seydina M. Ndiaye, and Yi Zeng.     Hosted by SDAIA | سدايا in partnership with ICESCO, the sessions addressed several key themes:    📚 Expanding education and AI capacity-building, ensuring immediate benefits of AI in classrooms.     🌍 Aligning AI technology with diverse cultural values.     🔄 Encouraging AI tech companies to collaborate with the Global South, fostering locally-led, culturally appropriate AI models.     🚀 Enhancing youth involvement in AI through policies that promote entrepreneurship, innovation, and education.     ⚖️ Balancing regulatory approaches to stimulate innovative AI development for optimal outcomes.     These discussions were highly productive, reflecting a broad range of perspectives. The AIAB continues to engage widely to develop inclusive and impactful AI governance recommendations.
