As the first 'TikTok Election', this year's political marketing campaigns have featured parodies, memes, and even a few musical moments - a little different than your standard leaflet through the door! Admittedly, I'm not the target audience for this marketing strategy, but there's something about politicians battling it out via memes that doesn't sit quite right with me. However, I always appreciate a strategy shift in line with changing audiences, and this year's campaigns have certainly done that! We, and many other users, are boycotting this platform’s #censorship and constraints to #freedomofexpression around the violent occupation in Palestine and connected issues. 🇵🇸🍉🇵🇸 Countless advocates for ending this genocide have been ousted, restricted and #shadowbanned, including our account, for nothing more than telling the #truth. LinkedIn is targeting anyone who reports truthful facts about this inhumanity and asks for institutional accountability. The negative publicity LinkedIn attracts with this controversial policy largely outweighs benefits generated by leaving open space to Zionist propaganda. This stance does not make even business sense, as it tarnishes their corporate reputation as a ‘professional’ social platform. A professional platform should not filter and select content based on political bias. Individual followers can decide with their own minds which content they want to see based on their choice to follow certain accounts and reacting to content they wish to see more of. Who would store their personal and sensitive data on a platform that actively promotes arbitrary political censorship and is politically aligned? This has to stop. Immediately. For the sake of the business future of this platform and our own freedom of expression. We request that those users be returned to the platform and not harassed, restricted or down prioritised in the algorithm. All have followed community guidelines and have been unfairly targeted, including this corporate account. We all know this from personal experience, for which we now have irrefutable #factualevidence we are collectively willing to share with interested parties and the press. Every week tens of thousands of people around the world see this message, react and comment, as proof this is a real issue for many people, even if this a challenging topic to talk about. Last week, I shared an article on the disinformation campaigns surrounding the recent UK riots. This week, it’s more of the same – but this time in relation to the US elections. A recent CIR investigation exposed how fake pro-Trump accounts have been using stolen pictures to further their aims. It’s not clear who’s behind these accounts, but we certainly can’t rule out foreign actors. The amount of disinformation we’re seeing might paint a bleak picture, but by spreading awareness of it and investigating its source, we can hope to limit its effects. Regardless of your stance on the current debate, it's essential to remember that businesses must have a diversified means of reaching their target audience. With just one law or rule change in data privacy, a significant revenue stream could come to an end. Therefore, if you find yourself relying on one platform to drive growth, it's time to expand your strategy. Diversify your approach to reach your target audience through multiple channels.
