Today it’s International Coffee Day and at Nespresso we are continuously working towards a sustainable future. Visiting two of the farms we are working with first hand in Brazil this summer, I was blown away by everything they do when it comes to regenerative agriculture initiatives as part of our Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality™ Program. It was an experience of a lifetime and truly inspiring to be part of! 🌱 Regenerative agriculture Empowering farmers in cultivating healthy soils, promoting biodiversity, and protecting natural ecosystems. 🌱 Reducing CO2 emissions Regenerative agriculture not only help reducing agricultural emissions, it also equips the land to sequester more carbon from the atmosphere, helping mitigate climate change. 🌱 Supporting local farmers By reducing input costs and increasing yields, regenerative practices improve farmers' livelihoods. We’re proud to work alongside Rainforest Alliance, supporting over 150,000 farmers through this transition. As an industry we have the power to fix our food system through supporting smaller suppliers following sustainable and ethical practices.

As a crucial link between producers and consumers, the hospitality industry can reshape our food system by properly valuing farmers, fishers and their communities. Responsible sourcing means choosing suppliers who are both environmentally and socially ethical from the start. This includes fair trade practices, respecting human rights and supporting the communities where produce is grown and harvested, as well as promoting those using environmentally-friendly methods like regenerative farming and sustainable fishing. This August, we’ll be exploring how restaurants have built strong relationships with growers and producers. World Food Day 2024 theme: "Right to Food for a Better Future". World Food Day, which falls on October 16, emphasises the critical need for sustainable food systems to address worldwide poverty and malnutrition. With more than 780 million people battling hunger, the emphasis is on fair access to healthy food and the promotion of sustainable agricultural methods. This year's theme promotes climate-smart agriculture, food waste reduction, and local farming to reduce environmental effect. By promoting sustainable diets and ethical consumption, we can ensure that everyone has access to nutritious food while also conserving our world for future generations.

📢 Despite some tremendous national and global challenges, the last five years have seen the Sustainable Food Places network of food partnerships go from strength to strength. Now with more than 100 members covering over 30% of all local authority areas in the UK, local food partnerships are quickly becoming the new norm in efforts to transform food and farming. The Sustainable Food Places programme is the glue that brings this movement together, amplifying its collective voice and scaling its impact. Through our work we have enabled food partnerships to grow and prosper, mobilising action and innovation across the food system, putting communities at the heart of a good food movement, and driving long-term change towards a more sustainable and resilient food system.
