The energy in the room was full of motivation to set clear policies to act now on financing, grids, permitting and supply chain. There is a lot of talk but now more action because the public and private sector are implementing together.

It’s a wrap: Public-private collaboration was at the heart of the discussions last week at the 14th International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly and World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi, where GRA joined energy ministers, government officials, and industry leaders to pave out the actions needed to deliver 11,000 renewable gigawatts by 2030. The extent of the task at hand was underscored by Francesco La Camera,  Director-General of IRENA, as he opened the Assembly: “We are entering into a new era of change, one in which the energy transition will drive economic transformation.” During the week, GRA and our members, Global Solar Council (GSC), Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), International Hydropower Association (IHA), Green Hydrogen Organisation - GH2, International Geothermal Association and Long Duration Energy Storage Council (LDES Council), hosted events, spoke with media, took part in discussions, and brought #Time4Action to the global arena. 𝗥𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰: 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝟮𝟬𝟯𝟬 by International Energy Agency (IEA) This edition of the IEA’s annual #Renewables market #report provides forecasts for the #deployment of #renewableenergy technologies in #electricity, #transport and #heat to 2030, while also exploring key #challenges facing the #industry and identifying #barriers that are preventing faster #growth.  At the COP28 UAE UN Climate Change Conference in December, #governments agreed to work together to triple the world’s installed renewable energy #capacity by 2030. Renewables 2024 offers a comprehensive country-level analysis on tracking #progress towards the global tripling target based on current #policies and market #developments. Additionally, it assesses the #challenges to faster #expansion.    For the first time, the report features a special #chapter on #renewablefuels, including #bioenergy, #biogases, #hydrogen, and #efuels. It forecasts their role in global energy #demand by 2030 and their potential for #decarbonizing the #industry, #building, and #transport sectors. 🎉 Fantastic news out of #Portugal last week, with the release of the Plano Nacional Energia e Clima 2021-2030 (PNEC 2030), which excitingly has targeted the expansion of several renewable sectors as key pillars of the country's energy and climate policy! 🎉 The main takeaways include, 🌊 Offshore Wind 🌊 The plan aims to allocate and install 2GW of #offshore wind capacity by 2030 through a series of auctions. The first of which is scheduled for later this year! Depending on the maturity of procedures and project implementations, additional auctions may be conducted, with the aim of increasing the installed offshore wind capacity up to 10GW throughout the 2030's. 🍃 Onshore Wind 🍃 In order to support the European Union's goal for climate neutrality by 2050 and the targets under the Paris Agreement, installed #onshore wind capacity is aimed to be 9.6GW by 2030. 🔋Battery and Pumped Hydro Storage🔋 The goal is to achieve 1GW of battery storage capacity by 2030, with pumped hydro storage set to increase from 3.6 GW in 2025 to 3.9 GW by 2030. Additionally, energy storage solutions will be closely integrated with renewable energy production facilities, including both solar and wind projects, to improve overall system reliability and efficiency. ☀️Solar Energy ☀️ The target is to reach 9GW of installed solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity by 2030. There is also a push to expand the use of solar thermal technologies, particularly for heating purposes, enhancing the overall renewable energy landscape in the short term. Similar to its offshore wind strategy, there will be an auction process for the production of electricity from solar. ♻️ Green Hydrogen ♻️ In Portugal's particular case, it's evident that #hydrogen will play an increasingly important role in the country's energy system, both to support the national grid and to meet hydrogen production objectives.
