⭐ JUST EAT was an incredible model of company culture. 10 years after leaving JUST EAT, it’s inspiring to see how many colleagues from that era still call it the best experience of their lives and cite it as a model today. The team I had the pleasure to share this experience with from 2007 to 2014 (IPO year) was truly remarkable. It had a unique blend of competence, ambition, drive, fun, and daring spirit. We used to call it "The Just Eat Jam". 👉 But there was more to it. As a first mover in our space, we were on a mission to create something new, remember ordering takeaways by phone? Neither do I. Facing skepticism, we were undeterred. We were united, goal-driven, and genuinely enjoyed learning from each other. It's rare to see a company foster such a cohesive culture where very different personalities thrive together, and everyone feels free to share their perspectives regardless of rank. We understood the diversity of ambition, preferences, and life goals, creating an environment that brought out the best in everyone and encouraged frank feedback. If you ask any ex-colleague from that time what made them love JUST EAT, it wasn’t the impressive growth or flashy KPIs (though we took pride in those too!). The answer is consistent: it was the people and the culture. The experience of building something great together, feeling ownership while having a fun time and learning from each other in such a unique way is something I'll never forget, and so won't many of my ex-colleagues. Many of us are still friends today and went on to launch, invest in, and work at other companies together - a true testament to the strength of the relationships we built. 💬 Have you experienced something similar in your career? What key factors made it unforgettable?
I’m proud to have been part of this journey and nothing has, or will come close. The culture and the people was why every day was worth waking up for. Oh and the regular parties/sports days/flash events/easter eggs on every desk/just eat onesies (which I still have btw), Craig David attending our world party and the general fun where possible, made it extra special. Great post 👏
Damn I miss ya'll. Those were the days, buddy. It's like having been in the army and going on a mission together or something, it's hard to put in words unless you were part of it. That's pre-IPO of course - then everything changed, sad face. Just Eat made my career (and you guys did). Is impossible for me to forget, as are those amazing years spent there. Very memorable. It really was the people, who together, made quite a culture I never experienced again to the same extent as there.
I still remember my first day at work in JUSTEAT, back in August 2010, saying good morning to you in that elevator at the business center in Madrid where we had our first office, not knowing who you were and unaware of the amazing experience that would follow over the next almost 7 years. I wouldn’t change a single comma of the text.
It was an organisation that changed my life and I will always be grateful to the leadership and the people who made it what it was. I will never forget my time there from 2010 to 2017, forever grateful.
Good old times!! 😁 With chief GAVIN rolling the Spanish crew!
Well said Giorgio! I still remember my first few weeks in 2011, you taught me how the business worked, but also so much about the history +culture. We built more organic #1 positions across the world than anyone else by living the JAM. Amazing to see what others from the team have achieved since
Giorgio - couldn’t agree more - what a great team, what a great time and we achieved so much - you and the pioneers were critical in setting the culture that lasted so long. Happy times. 😁
Great post Giorgio Ponticelli. Fantastic times indeed. A perfect mix of people, culture, values. We have achieved a lot together. And thank you for having been with us at the launch of Just Eat Spain! We made it!
Couldnt agree more. Will never forget the yearly JE world parties. Where everybody leaned in to learn from eachother cross countries and create strong social bonds. And of course, Norways victory in Just Eat Got Talent in 2014! ;) A competition that brought out the best from the unique JE culture. It was a special time for all of us 💫
