Excellent recent review on the role of #narcissism and #status seeking in politics, reviewing over seven decades of scientific research The conclusion, however, is far from surprising (unless you completely ignore the world of real life #politics): "Power and status seeking mean also that those scoring high in narcissism often find political leadership attractive, especially if they feel they would benefit from it personally. However, this does not necessarily go hand in hand with political expertise or respect for democratic standards, and in fact it can be marked by suspicion of others and unethical behaviors. The narcissistic needs for defensive self-protection and dominance have also been linked to group-aggrandizing tendencies and hostile intergroup attitudes. Pretending has been a way of being in our society. People pretend to be happy, courageous, strong and so on. The one who doesn’t pretend that way is labeled ‘weak’. However, in this whole game of pretending, the whole society is becoming inauthentic. People are unable to take things as they are in the real sense! They want things to be told in the way they want to hear. Not just that, because of inauthenticity, people start back biting each other or involve in cheating each other. Instead of that, if people can develop the habit of being authentic to each other, maybe certain things would be difficult to accept initially. However, it will definitely be easy to trust people because we are assured that the person will speak his/her heart and will not sugarcoat things only to make them appear appealing while in actual it is not! #authenticity #pretension #society  #manosamvaada #psychology  #mentalwellbeing
