I am always looking for how businesses can improve return on their marketing investment whether that be digital, phone or any other medium. From what I see the number one reason marketing spend doesn’t get an ROI is not because of poor marketing, or wrong medium, or the message wasn’t quite right – its simply that the process of handling the leads falls over. Often this happens in that big black hole between “Marketing” and “Sales”. If you want to increase your conversion, don’t spend more, just call your leads sooner, its that simple. There is so much data out there that supports me on this, which is that the quicker you call a lead back, the more likely they are to go with you. We aim to call all our leads within an hour of them submitting their details on our website and I can’t tell you the amount of times people comment on how impressed they are or unusual that is – it sets the right tone for what it’s like to work with us. By the time we have a proposal and service agreement to them, the others they enquired with are often only just getting around to call them several days later (and some don’t ever call them back!). If you don’t have capacity to make these calls that quickly, then get someone to do it for you (we do it for many clients, but there are plenty of options out there). Even if its just the initial call to book a meeting in the calendar, you will be blown away by how a small spend and a little time spent on your process can dramatically improve the conversion on the thousands of dollars you probably spent attracting them to you in the first place.
