Welcome back to another video. I plan to go outside to film today, but it's raining. So now in this video, I want to talk to you a little bit about the benefits of homeschooling. Parents choose homeschooling because they want something different. So for example, right now in mathematics with my year 7 cohort, I'm just doing the basic maths that they need to prepare them for the harder and more real life stuff that we're going to do later. Eventually these students are going to sit GCSE exam. So I do need to make sure that I prepare them for that because after all, we still got to prepare them for life and they have to do an exam, get that certificate so that when they go out for that job, it's easier to pick up. But Sandra, my business partner, she's the science teacher and I'm really excited about what she's doing. She's focusing on a forensic unit, so the kids want to do some work on forensics. So right now she is writing a forensic unit, so when we start in January, they will be doing that. That is really exciting. I can't wait to see that. So with her doing this unit, first of all, it's all pieced so it's not what you would normally do in the school. And second of all, it's based on what the kids want so we can work in a home. School one of the greatest benefits. You can work at your own pace. You don't have to rush the kids to get all this knowledge in their heads in a short space of time. I'm also excited about what Tyler, Mr. Knuckles or English teacher is doing. So the kids wanted to do some work on Greek mythology and Greek poetry, and recently we published a photo of the finished work of one of our kids writing a piece of poetry as Medusa and it was brilliant to watch that happen. Now, how does home school benefit us, the teachers as well? I remember in the day I started teaching in 1998 and those were the glory days of. Being a teacher, you come to school, you taught great lessons, you had a lot of fun with the kids and so on, and you just watch them learn. These days it has come down now to quite a lot of box ticking exercises, lots of meetings that are completely pointless. You just don't see the benefit of being a great teacher anymore in your life is just consumed by admin tasks and all sorts of other things that just keep you busy on a day-to-day basis. You come home from work and you're still stuck in front of your laptop for hours on end, still trying to get things done. So that you are ahead of the game for the next day. And so one of the things that we enjoy as homeschoolers is that we don't have that anymore. We can now sit down and just focus on the thing that matters most, which is delivering great lessons to our students. Watch them, have a great time and watch them thrive on the OR teaching. It also makes our job super simple because now we're not trying to teach. Inappropriate things or things that are just completely useless to the kids as would be dictated by a national curriculum or one-size-fits-all. We will dip into the national curriculum every now and again, but the main thing is, is making sure that kids do what they want to do. Kids do what they're interested in.
