A new report published by UCAS and supported by Gatsby examines the circumstances in which people apply for Level 4 and 5 qualifications. As a result of the research, UCAS has committed to building awareness among young people and providers about Level 4 and 5 qualifications, including valuable Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs). The research showed that the majority of applicants who apply for Level 4 and 5 courses also apply for degrees, but when offered both, a third of them choose Level 4 or 5 courses. Ginny Page, Director of Programmes at Gatsby said: “Efforts to increase participation in level 4 and 5 qualifications must be based on an understanding of what learners want from these courses. This valuable research from UCAS challenges the belief that Level 4-5 courses are just a back-up option for young people in the event of failing to meet the entry criteria for an undergraduate degree. “Instead, this research shows that many Level 4-5 applicants are more work orientated and want to study closer to home. While league table position is of much less interest to them than the average HE applicant, they clearly need more information about options such as Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs), and the financial support available to them. “ Download the full report: https://lnkd.in/eDFn5S4v #highereducation #technicaleducation #skills #highertechnicalqualifications #HTQs #HE

🙏Wishing all those getting their GCSE results the best of luck today! 🙏 🔟 There are 10 years between myself and my little (not so little) brother. He’s just received his GCSE Results. He’s stressed, he’s avoided, he’s hyperfocussed and locked in and smashed his eductaion over the last 12 months especially. 8️⃣/8️⃣ After finishing his exams, we’re all over the moon to share that he has PASSED every GCSE he sat. 8/8 GCSE’s and he thought he’d have to reset them all. He’s smashed it & I couldn’t be any prouder for him. 😨 I failed History and French GCSE’s, failed my driving test first time, failed my theory test first time, lost numerous personal battles but have learnt from it. I’m not a French-speaking historian but I try my best to continuously improve on what I can do whilst being mindful of self-improvement. Understanding what you need to do differently and the whole reason as to why you ‘failed’ is the only way to get it correct next time & grow from it! 🤩 I can’t believe it’s been 6 years since I successfully completed my Cilex Lvl 4 Apprenticeship with HF. I’ve learnt so much over the course of these years and I can’t thank the entire company enough for the opportunities I had to grow. The school system falls short from any relevance to real life situations. There are ‘sports’ now, for the younger generations whereby nobody wins and nobody loses. Yet we have a fail or pass system… It doesn’t make sense to me… Life’s about learning from not quite hitting the mark and being humble with the wins. Growing from a ‘failure’ is the absolute key to improvement, so why do schools frighten our youth with failure? It should be embraced, so that we can learn. There’s so much more to it rather than simple fails and passes but well done to those putting up with the system 👏 #resultsday #gcse #cilex #schoolsystem #pass

When I was Head of Department, GCSE results day was one of my favourite days. Weird, huh? Now I believe there is WAY too much pressure on young people to evidence attainment in a qualification that doesn't actually serve them. There are also teachers feeling real anxiety at this time, knowing they'll need to "explain their results". The reason I loved GCSE results day was because I got to feel genuine pride for the students. And our department GCSEs were usually amazing too so I got to feel proud of myself and my team. We need other areas to feel this pride for our students in our education system. We only have one place to feel that collective pride: academic results. It is way too narrow and puts too much pressure on those involved. We have too few KPIs in schools. Let's celebrate academic achievement, but let's also find other areas of success in our education system. #education #teach #teacher #gcse #student #learn

Today, many students across the country receive their GCSE results. It's a day filled with anticipation, joy, and sometimes disappointment. To those who may not have achieved the grades they were hoping for, but as a reminder you a certificate does not define your worth or potential. I remember my school days when we were given one of those leather-bound books. The government had decided to provide these to all students in England to store certificates and other significant 'records of achievement' (I can still recall their distinct smell!). It seemed like a great idea if your grades were something to be proud of, but perhaps not as encouraging if your certificates didn't reflect your true potential. Like many others, mine ended up gathering dust. In the professional world, success is not solely measured by grades but by the effort, dedication, and resilience you demonstrate. The determination to keep pushing forward, to learn from setbacks, and to continuously strive for improvement speaks volumes about your character. Your GCSE results are a snapshot of one moment in your educational journey, but they do not capture your entire story. Employers value qualities such as perseverance, adaptability, and a positive attitude—traits that often can't be measured by exams Whatever your results, this is just a stepping stone to a whole world of opportunities.. #gcseresults #earlycareers

GCSE results day...😬 Five years ago today I collected my GCSE results, I remember feeling really nervous on the day, hoping I'd done enough to be able to get into the subjects I wanted to do at sixth form. I've spoken on here before, briefly, about my GCSE journey, and how I had to overcome my own grief during this time of my life, losing my grandad, who I was very close to, whilst also managing to remain as focused as possible on getting the results I wanted, and needed. I wasn't a model student, not by any stretch of the imagination, and I actually didn't get the grade I needed to go on to do English at a-level. However, with some persistence, I managed to get an exception made for me, going on to get a C a few years later (in what ended up being a Covid affected sixth form journey!) The moral of what I'm saying is that, your results in school, especially at GCSE level absolutely do not define you. I went on to enjoy my two years at sixth form, making new friends and gaining confidence throughout. I've gone on to complete an apprenticeship and am over two years into a role I absolutely love. Good luck to everyone receiving their GCSE results today, I hope you get what you're after, but if you don't...DO NOT PANIC!! I'm a real believer that things really do happen for a reason. 👏🏻 p.s. Thomas Cundy many apologies for bringing this one back up 😂😂 #GCSEResults #ResultsDay

👩🏻🎓Today is GCSE results day for many, a moment filled with nostalgia and contemplation of past educational experiences. While some treasure their school days, others, like myself, encountered challenges along the way. I stumbled through most of my GCSEs and faced failures too. Transitioning to college to study A-Levels presented its own hurdles and uncertainties. Struggling to assimilate and battling old habits, I questioned if traditional education was my calling. Opting to explore a different path, I ventured into the workforce after deciding college was not for me. Hard work has always been my ally, from paper rounds to car washes, I embraced practicality. I struggled to find full time work with little experience under my belt. Feeling lost, I decided to give college another chance, opting for a BTEC program. The shift to coursework-based assessments and a supportive atmosphere made a significant impact. The tutors recognised my potential, listened to me, and cultivated an environment where I could flourish. In the end, persistence paid off, resulting in two Distinctions and a Merit. It underscores the transformative influence of finding the right support and environment for personal growth. Something I strongly believe in. Remember, regardless of today's outcome, you always have the power to chart a new course in life! #EducationJourney #Transformation #Perseverance #GCSEresults

It's a new month. The Ministry of Education is one ministry that impacts our lives in one way or another, directly or indirectly. They have just concluded KPSEA exams and now continuing with KCSE Exams. All the best to the candidates who apparently are the only ones still in school uniform. Any announcement they make we all listen.🪘🙉 They decide when the Schools will open and when they will close. Ask the late Prof. who closed and opened at will and we all obliged. Loved his boldness and work ethics.😷 The current announcement was made by the Education CS and National Exams went on despite it being a gazetted public holiday 🤝 For the next 9 weeks more than 15,000 hours we will be with them. The question is what constructive activities will they be doing? What life skills are they learning, which places are they visiting? Who is talking to them 🤯, Social media? The activities they engage in now impact their career Journey. John Krumboltz's Social Learning Theory suggests that career decisions are influenced by learning experiences and environmental factors, encouraging flexibility in career planning to adapt to new opportunities. This is an extremely insightful report, and reassuring that national trends are mirroring what we're seeing locally. One question: when you say "Foundation degree" do you mean Foundation year integrated into a level 6 degree, or level 5 Foundation Degree (FdA, FdSc)?
