Although Brazil is not one of the world's leading wheat producers, ranking 15th globally, the country has seen significant growth in the cultivation of this cereal, particularly in colder regions. This increase in production reflects the growing importance of wheat for Brazilian agriculture, which seeks to reduce its dependence on imports and strengthen the domestic market. #BrazilAgribusiness #BrazilWheat

#Brazil, among the world’s agricultural powerhouses as a producer of corn and soybeans, is looking to become self-sufficient in the production of #wheat within the next decade. In the early 2000s, Brazil’s wheat production was able to meet just over 30% of the national demand. However, by the 2022-23 harvest, this self-sufficiency rate had increased to 80%, a significant improvement. Despite this progress, the country still faces a gap between production and consumption. → https://ow.ly/xmeJ50Svpmy #agriculture #agribusiness #grain

Brazil and its sea of soybeans By Geraldo José G. Isoldi, Agricultural Markets Analyst for King Korn In a report released on Nov. 14, the second of the Brazilian 24/25 season, the National Supply Company (CONAB, the agricultural Brazilian official agency) announced that Brazil is expected to harvest 166.14 million metric tons of soybeans (6.10 billion bushels). Interestingly, this figure is very close to the latest WASDE projection (Nov. 8), which indicated 169 mmt (6.21 billion bushels). Adding in Argentina’s 51 mmt (1.87 billion bu) and Paraguay’s 11.2 mmt (411.59 million bu), both projected by the USDA, South America’s total soybean production could reach a record 230 mmt (8.45 billion bu) — a true sea of soybeans. For Brazil, this estimate is also the largest ever, 6.7% above the previous record of 155.7 mmt (5.72 billion bu) in the 22/23 season. The soybean crop in Brazil traditionally starts in mid-September, with the states of Paraná and Mato Grosso.… Continue reading https://lnkd.in/gfKCTsTh

The government’s substantial $1.4 billion investment in enhancing non-traditional crop cultivation has led to a 10 per cent increase in ‘other crop’ production during the first half of 2024. Other crop production refers to the cultivation of crops that are not classified under the major or staple crop categories, such as rice, corn, or wheat. Through training programmes, infrastructural development, and seed and fertiliser distribution initiatives, the government was able to significantly increase production levels in comparison to last year. To lower the country’s food import bill, the government collaborated with the private sector to support the local production of produce that are normally imported. This increased level of production had a significant impact on the country’s economic growth in non-oil sectors. Overall, the government is steadfastly advancing its vision to meet CARICOM’s goal of lowering the regional food import bill by 25 per cent by the year 2025. https://lnkd.in/eGmraRig

Overview by AgriBrasilis - November 15th, 2024 Rainfall in Argentina recorded on November 9th and 10th should allow the 2024/25 soybean sowing to continue. According to the Rosário Commerce Exchange, the country should reach the planting estimate of 17.7 million hectares, with a projection of 52 million tonnes of soybeans for the season. (Bolsa de Comercio de Rosario) The railway and logistics company Rumo in Brazil has shown increased profit by 65% in the 3Q24. A higher volume of agricultural cargo in the Northern Network offset losses in the South, resulting in a profit of US$ 137.64 million from July to September. (Rumo Logística) In experiments in the State of Mato Grosso, the adoption of “customized sowing”, which involves varying the quantity of seeds throughout different areas of the farm, increased corn yields by up to 8% and cotton yields by up to 3%. The research used a technology called Intelligent Planting Solution to adjust sowing according to the terrain and soil characteristics. (Embrapa; Bosch) Minerva recorded a net profit of US$ 16.20 million in 3Q24, a drop of 33% when compared to 3Q23. The company’s Ebitda totaled US$ 139.96 million from July to September, an increase of 13.9% when compared to the same period of 2023 in Brazil. (Minerva Foods) Almost 35% of table grape of Chile exports to the US should be carried out without methyl bromide fumigation. These exports should reach 56 thousand tonnes of a total of 161 thousand tonnes of grapes, reaching a value of US$ 107 million. (Table Grape Committee) The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, declared a national emergency situation after storms caused flooding in several regions of the country and a drought forced Bogotá to ration water. (Government of Colombia) Drought and low water reservoirs are harming corn production in Mexico. The forecast is for a harvest of 24.5 million tonnes of corn in 2024/25, 7% below the average of the last five years. Almost 70% of the country’s second corn harvest happens in the Sinaloa region, where water reservoirs have reached their lowest level in 22 years. (Conagua (Comisión Nacional del Agua); SIAP-Agricultura) A trade mission was carried out in Southeast Asia, aiming to attract investment and diversify markets. The aim is to explore emerging markets and to promote exports of products such as soybeans, meat and ethanol, from Paraguay to countries such as Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam. Soybean production in #Argentina is expected to increase in 2024-25, with a larger planted second soy crop. Production is estimated at 51 million tonnes, up 1.5 million tonnes from the previous harvest. #Wheat planting is expected to decrease due to low prices and low returns. #Corn planting is expected to decrease for similar reason but also fueled by fear of the impact of the chicharrita to yields. → https://ow.ly/78yQ50RvPgo #agriculture #agribusiness #grain #oilseeds #soybeans #SouthAmerica
