Bees are vital to our ecosystems and farming systems, yet their populations are facing alarming declines. In the UK alone, 13 species have already been lost, and another 35 are at risk. Without pollinators, UK farmers would face an additional £1.8 billion cost to pollinate their crops, a stark reminder of their importance to sustainable agriculture. At Habitat Regeneration, we specialise in establishing pollen and nectar flower mixes to support pollinators like bumblebees, solitary bees, butterflies, and hoverflies. These mixes provide essential food sources from late spring through summer while encouraging natural pest control near cropped areas as part of an integrated pest management approach. As an added benefit, these projects can qualify for funding under the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI), making it easier for farmers to invest in sustainable practices that enhance biodiversity and improve crop resilience. By working together to protect pollinators, we can strengthen farm sustainability while safeguarding the natural systems we all depend on. We can see a shift from a 50 year funded mindset, to the reawakening that trees work for the farm business, and going forward their strategical targeted positioning, increase, will be vital to us in this climate, nature crisis - in mitigating flood, drought, unseasonal weather, whilst improving freshwater quality - its biodiversity, and helping wildlife connectivity at a landscape scale with new habitat. "Agroforestry gains momentum and is now recognised in the Sustainable Farming Incentive Abi advises working with the The Woodland Trust and foresters to see whether #agroforestry can be successfully and profitably integrated into the farming business. Certainly, there is growing evidence to show that a symbiotic approach to agriculture and land use will be the way ahead for many enterprises, with benefits not only for the environment but the bottom line too." https://lnkd.in/eyu-br8z Niels Corfield Helen Chesshire Jerry Langford Adam Cormack Darren Moorcroft (he/him)

Innovation in Farming is key to Food Security. As we move from farm to fork, we must collect and analyse all the data along the Value Chain especially in the Factories. Woolworths Farming For the Future continues to add to THE DIFFERENCE by enhancing best farming practices.
The SHERPA team commenced our visits to farms participating in the SHERPA & Farming for the Future project, in collaboration with Woolworths. 🎇 Recently, the SHERPA team had the privilege of visiting Laastedrif Boerdery in Ceres alongside representatives from Woolworths. It was an enriching experience where we delved into discussions about sustainable farming practices and witnessed firsthand the dedication of the Laastedrif Boerdery team. We eagerly anticipate meeting more farms over the coming months as we continue to introduce them to the SHERPA tool and support their sustainability endeavors. These visits not only provide us with valuable insights but also foster meaningful connections within the farming community. 🌾 #sustainableagriculture #SHERPA #sustainability #sustainablefoodsystems

🌱🌾 Redefining Agriculture: A Path to Sustainable Food Security 🌾🌱 In a world grappling with the challenge of feeding a growing population sustainably, the debate between conventional farming and conservation agriculture takes centre stage. Justin Platt, Founder & CEO of Zylem and RegenZ, dives into this discourse, shedding light on the transformative potential of conservation farming. Conservation agriculture advocates for minimal soil disturbance, soil armour through mulch or cover crops, crop diversity, and livestock integration. While traditional farming relies heavily on chemicals, conservation agriculture prioritises land stewardship. Platt argues that this approach could revolutionise food production, particularly for smallholder farmers often overlooked by large-scale commercial operations. Despite scepticism from conventional farming establishments, Platt emphasises the untapped potential of smallholder farmers and the need for investment in their practices. He highlights Solynta's Hybrid True Potato Seed (HTPS) as a groundbreaking technology poised to empower smallholder farmers and challenge the status quo. Beyond profitability, conservation agriculture addresses environmental concerns by enhancing soil health, biodiversity, and resilience to climate change. Platt underscores the imperative of reshaping our relationship with nature to ensure a sustainable future for farming and food security. Join the conversation on redefining agriculture for a healthier, more resilient future. Together, we can cultivate a greener, more abundant world.
