Having research and data is essential for advocacy — from local activism to global policy making. Numbers often back up what women have known for a long time about the risk, vulnerability and discrimination they face in a wide range of contexts, including employment. But how this data is accessed, generated and used is often overlooked or forgotten in the conversation. This means extractivist practices are all too common in research spaces — even in those focused on social change. WIEGO has long operated on the notion that knowledge is generated WITH and FOR women workers in informal employment, instead of ON them. Drawing from activist research traditions like knowledge co-production or participatory action research, we aim to show the critical knowledge women hold about the challenges they face and the solutions they need. What are the principles that underpin this type of research? And how do they contribute to an intersectional approach needed to solve complex social issues? Scroll 👉🏾 to learn more. On this #InternationalWomensDay, and every day, we call for all women to be included in telling their own stories and shaping their own demands. #IWD #IWD2024 #Intersectionality #ActionResearch

Recognition of workers’ situated experience and knowledge, trust-building with long-standing WIEGO partners and membership-based organizations, ongoing communication and feedback loops, relationality and attention to context are key principles that guide research processes at WIEGO. Inextricably linked to these principles is the notion that affect and care can serve as a bridge between critical inquiry and praxis, whereby workers can see their lived stories accurately reflected in research findings. This year, the campaign theme for the International Women’s Day is #InspireInclusion, which emphasizes the importance of diversity and empowerment in all aspects of society. The theme is very much aligned with ResultsinHealth. We continually utilize and promote participatory and empowering innovative approaches and methodologies that prioritize inclusion as one of the key elements. And most of our work applies an intersectional lens and focuses on contributing to improving the rights of women and girls in all their diversity. The late director of ResultsinHealth, Aryanti Radyowijati (may she rest in peace), was a strong female figure who led the organization within which almost a third of its in-house staff are women from diverse backgrounds and nationalities. Below is a voice from Nur Rokhmah Hidayati, a staff member of ResultsinHealth, sharing her thoughts on #InspireInclusion. "A true inclusion isn't just about checking boxes; it's about creating a safe space where every woman feels seen, heard, and celebrated for their unique contributions." What about you? What do you think about #InspireInclusion? What does it mean for you? #IWD2024

As we celebrate International Women's Day, it's essential to reflect on the valuable lessons and insights that have shaped our journeys as women. Recently, I attended a Women's International Day Event at HUB24 featuring esteemed speakers who shared their career experiences. Here are some key takeaways that resonated with me: - A supportive partner is crucial for personal and professional growth. - The power of mentorship can create a ripple effect, fostering a community of empowered individuals. - Women empowering women is a key aspect of promoting equality. - Surrounding oneself with positive influences is essential for a healthy mindset. - Prioritizing mental and physical health is non-negotiable. - Embracing individuality and authenticity is empowering. - Understanding financial literacy can empower women to make informed decisions for a secure financial future. The wisdom shared by the speakers at HUB24 echoed many of these sentiments and served as a reminder of the importance of empowering, uplifting, and inspiring each other. Let's continue to create a world where every woman can thrive on her unique journey. #womenempowerment #happywomensday #HUB24 #iwd2024
