📣 ANNOUNCEMENT: We’ve just learned that some of the #LossAndDamage negotiators from the #GlobalSouth who worked tirelessly 💪 to ensure the #LossAndDamage Fund came to fruition at #COP27 and #COP28 🙌 do not have funding to be at the upcoming intercessional climate negotiations under the UNFCCC UN, taking place from 3 to 13 June in Bonn, Germany. 👐 In order to take the outcome of #COP28 forward in a way that meets the needs on the ground we must ensure that negotiators from the Global South are at the table and equipped with the tools to advocate for those on the frontlines of the #climatecrisis. 👊 With just six weeks to go we have reinvigorated our fundraising campaign to raise the funds needed to enable at least two of the negotiators lacking funding to get to Bonn for the next round of global negotiators on #LossAndDamage. Please share to help us amplify. 🤗 https://lnkd.in/es4gkDMS For more on some of the challenges faced by negotiators from developing countries read a blog by Erin Roberts below. 👇 https://lnkd.in/ez5XuxVY Thank you in advance for supporting the true heroes on the frontlines of the #climatecrisis. 🙏

So far, too many on-the-ground #actors are still hesitant to get behind the #SDGs as converging #crises keep worsening. It's time we turn the #GlobalGoals into actively shared objectives for all of #humanity, if we want to create a more #sustainable world that works for all by 2030. We need to create processes that generate #engagement with the #SDGs at the level of #communities and bioregions everywhere. Only if local #people will take #responsibility for implementing the #SDGs shall we have a realistic change of accomplishing the audacious task set by #Agenda2030. To motivate such a commitment we need people to understand the multiple benefits that will result from a successful implementation of all #SDGs for their own #lives, their #families and #communities, #nations, and for #humanity and the #community of #life as a whole.United Nations UN Climate Change UN Environment Programme IPCC Green Climate Fund Greenpeace International Mafalda Duarte Simon Stiell Inger Andersen António Guterres UN SDG Action Campaign UN Sustainable Development Group African Union UNDP

[psst! Here's how to to act as a responsible steward to your constituents and fund the #justtransition: stop funding the #climatedisaster. * #governments: end #fossilfuel subsidies, and reallocate that public money to #climatejustice in keeping with your oath of office; * #pensionplans, #endowments, and other major investors: shake off the extortion racket of quarterly reporting + undisclosed #externalities, and reorient portfolios to investments that actually serve your mission and fulfill your #fiduciaryduty You don't even have to figure it out. There are many qualified, credentialed, and experienced people and organizations readily available to help you #dotherightthing.]
"A global green transition would require investments in trillions of dollars per year. This level of investment would keep the Paris Agreement’s 1.5° C within reach and help avoid the possibility of an overshoot that could unleash irreversible climate tipping points." The growth of the Adaptation and Resilience Collaborative (ARC) marks a watershed moment in climate philanthropy, reflecting a growing recognition of escalating climate impacts, and the associated human suffering especially for the most vulnerable who are least responsible. ClimateWorks Foundation's latest report highlights an encouraging increase in annual funding for #adaptation and resilience, reaching $600 million in 2023 and projected to grow further in 2024. But much more is needed to close the gap in global adaptation finance. Between #COP28 and #COP29, more than 60 organisations have joined ARC, aligning efforts to build resilience and ensure resources reach those most affected. This collaborative force shows that, alongside rapid decarbonisation, the world’s most vulnerable must have the support needed to adapt and respond to climate impacts. What did we get up and who did we meet at New York Climate Week? Our CEO Arielle Gamble shares all the goss over at Philanthropy Australia. TLDR: here are her key takeaways! 💡 Collective, strategic funding is crucial to solving the climate crisis with the highest possible impact. 🌏 An Australian-Pacific COP31 in 2026 presents a rare, transformative opportunity for global climate action. Centring First Nations and Pacific voices, accelerating advocacy, and strengthening international partnerships are essential. ☠️ Disinformation fuelled by AI is a real, urgent and growing threat – investing in positive climate stories across media will be key to combating bad actors and achieving our emissions targets. 🙏 Australian philanthropy must move beyond talk and mobilise at scale to fund the work requiring resourcing now. With less than five years left in our global carbon budget, this is our last shot. Together with the COP31 funders group, we are assembling a prospectus for co-funding and encouraging people to reach out and get involved. ⚡ The decisions made by world leaders will be shaped by the advocacy and funding we invest in today. Quite simply, we don’t have time to lose.

I've become a bit of a nerd for global philanthropy trends, so was very excited to dig into the fifth installment of ClimateWorks Foundation's brilliant annual #FundingTrends piece 🤓 Some of the key takeaways are pretty incredible: - 💸 There was a 20% (!!!) increase in philanthropic funding towards climate change mitigation efforts between 2022-2023 alone. However, this still only represents 2% of total philanthropic giving in 2023. Much more needs to be deployed to meet the urgency of the climate crisis. - 🌍 Similarly, foundation funding to some of the most climate-vulnerable regions (including Africa, Asia & Oceania, and Latin America) increased substantially between 2019-2023. And yet, frustratingly, giving to these regions represented just 20% of total foundation funding towards a single country or region. - 🫨 Middle-to-low income countries received much lower levels of core funding to support their climate mitigation efforts than the U.S. and Europe (core funding, i.e. overhead, is the lifeblood of ANY organization, and essential to ensuring long term success and sustainability). I genuinely believe in the transformative power of philanthropy to address the biggest challenges of our time. When practiced in a way that is equitable, collaborative, inclusive, and FAST --- foundations can be a critical tool to amplify and accelerate the hard work being done at the grassroots level. Kudos to ClimateWorks Foundation for publishing such important data, and for supporting some incredible organizations (including Power for All) in the fight for bold climate action. #SDG7 #SustainableDevelopment #ClimateMitigation #ClimateAdaptation #GlobalPhilanthropy #Trending #EndEnergyPovertyFaster
🌍📊 Today, we’re excited to release our annual report on funding trends in climate change mitigation philanthropy. In this year’s report, we find that philanthropic funding for climate mitigation increased significantly in 2023, outpacing the growth in overall global philanthropic giving for the first time since 2020. However, sustained climate progress will require much more action and funding. This year’s report covers foundation funding data from 2019 to 2023. Key findings include: 🔹 Annual foundation funding for climate mitigation nearly tripled between 2019 and 2023. 🔹 Emerging areas include sustainable finance (which was the fastest-growing enabling strategy for climate mitigation funding) and efforts to reduce emissions from super pollutants like methane (which was the fastest-growing sector). 🔹 Low-to-middle-income countries receive much lower levels of flexible or core funding for climate mitigation. Ultimately, this report provides insights on the evolution of climate philanthropy, emerging trends, and ways to support bold climate action. 💡 Let’s make 2025 the year we step up climate ambition together. 📖 Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/gQnn5tT4 #ClimateAction #Philanthropy #ClimateChange #FundingTrends2024

Looking ahead to South Africa’s G20 Presidency, it has become clear that inclusive access to climate finance and delivering a robust and inclusive financial framework are essential to accelerating the global energy transition and address loss and damage. I’m happy to see so many of South Africa’s priorities in the G20 Rio de Janeiro Leaders’ Declaration, among them critical minerals, reform of the global financial architecture, and food security
📜 With both the #G20 Leaders’ Declaration published and the COP29 Azerbaijan negotiations concluded, we at F20 are embracing this opportunity to take stock of the outcomes and commitments made this year. 👏 As a philanthropic community, we clearly have our work cut out for us. We need to work together to show up with solutions, encourage ambitious leadership and advocate jointly for the implementation of the SDGs as well as the Paris Climate Agreement. ⏰ Considering the scope of the COP29 and G20 outcomes and the urgency required to act, philanthropic organisations, foundations, and civil society organisations must be emboldened to be more active and dynamic in taking action as well as advocating for stronger leadership from governments. The sources of climate finance clearly need to be broader, more determined, and must centre people first, which philanthropy is uniquely placed to make possible.
