We're thrilled to launch the first episode of series two of Talking Transitions, where we delve into how concerns over energy security are shaping broader perspectives on the challenges of decarbonisation. Energy transition is inseparable from energy security. But how do we navigate geopolitical instability and economic uncertainties? This episode unpacks how initiatives like the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism could speed up the adoption of clean energy and bolster energy security, whilst striving to minimise international tension and maintain a level playing field for developing nations. Talking Transitions, a collaborative podcast series from FORESIGHT Climate & Energy and EY, examines the shift towards a sustainable economy, not only environmentally but also socially, impacting three critical sectors: energy and resources, financial services, and government. Join FORESIGHT Climate & Energy's Policy Editor, Sam Morgan, and a panel of experts as they explore the intricate issues of energy security in the 21st century: ◾ Andy Brogan, EY-Parthenon Energy Leader ◾ Raphaella Gomes, CEO, New Gaia Strategies ◾ Jeremy (JB) Bentham, Executive Co-Chair for Scenarios, World Energy Council Tune in now to catch these insights on the move: https://lnkd.in/e3DSn46Z

Why is the energy transition important? How can we better understand the issues facing us? This episode of Chris Nelder ’s Energy Transition Show doesn’t answer all of these questions, but provides some basic insight into the problems we face, and the ramifications of inaction.

Had a great time speaking with Matthew Lockwood and Steve Coulter about green industrial policy for the Green Alliance podcast! A few highlights: - We're seeing a major shift in norms - industrial policy is no longer a dirty word - Europe and the UK are in a position where markets simply aren't enough to address priorities like maintaining local industry and industrial decarbonization - Concerns are growing that countries will lose industries like clean energy tech because of international competition, and that attempts to cleaning up dirtier industries like steel could just mean them leaving altogether - But industrial policy is hard to do properly: lots of barriers including not just finance but also institutions and vision You can listen to the whole thing here: https://lnkd.in/eHYkRb8d

🎙️🌍 In this episode of our podcast, Steve Coulter, Green Alliance’s head of economy, speaks to experts about why the UK is crying out for a green industrial strategy. Industrial strategies are driving change around the world, in the US, EU and China, but the UK has yet to follow suit. Green industrial strategy is more than just switching from carbon to electric power, it must encompass a broader vision integrating economic resilience by meeting environmental objectives across organisational, political and economic frameworks. We hear the case for the UK to join other leading nations by creating a bold vision for a green economic transformation from Matthew Lockwood, senior lecturer in energy and climate policy at Sussex University, who says the UK needs to be less reactive and start planning longer term, and Silvia Weko, postdoctoral researcher in European energy politics and policy with the University of Erlangen–Nuremberg in Germany. This year’s CERAWeek – an annual energy conference heralded by some as “the Davos of Energy” – drew more than 8,000 delegates from 85 different countries and more than 1,400 speakers from across the energy supply chain earlier this month. This year’s theme, Multidimensional Energy Transition: Markets, Climate, Technology and Geopolitics, centered on the question of how to meet increasing demand for power amid the transition to clean energy, and how to take advantage of the opportunities and anticipate and navigate risk. Speakers generally agreed the transition will not be linear, and that different geopolitical realities, national priorities and technologies are sometimes in conflict. Sessions ranged from funding the transition to security of supply to decarbonization, and featured government leaders, regulators, C-suite executives and journalists. Below are the Brunswick team’s key takeaways. https://lnkd.in/gcz78bhP

PODCAST TIP FOR THE WEEKEND: the latest summary of Net Zero prospects from Michael Liebreich. Based on his earlier blogs for BNEF, he frames the debate (or likelihood of success) in terms of "Five Horsemen of the Transition" facing-off against "Five Superheroes". If you want interesting stats and powerful analysis, in an easily digestable format, this is for you! Its four years since I was first introduced to Net Zero planning and it was clear that enormous challenges faced us - political, financial, and technological. Although Liebreich wont commit to the net outcome of these Horsemen vs Superheroes, notably within a timeframe that can keep global warming below 1.5 degrees, I certainly feel that momentum has swung towards the Superheroes since 2020. #netzero #netzerotransition #sbti #sustainablefinance Formue Sverige Formue Norge Formue Danmark
