Creating new ways to diversify food protein production can help prevent future food crisis. 💡 Our industry is focused on finding new ways to produce food proteins that can help de-risk our food system by anticipating potential future shocks caused by climate or geopolitical crisis that can impact food production. We are committed to providing fermentation-enabled foods that require little land and water resources, minimise links in the supply chain, provide economic opportunities for farmers and meet the demand of European consumers. But we need to work together to overcome the current obstacles in changing how we produce and consume protein. We're excited to have collaborated on this New Food article discussing the interconnectedness of global food systems and the importance of collaborative, cross-sector solutions to strengthen food resilience. https://lnkd.in/dikAzh3x #Fermentation #ClimateChange #FoodSystems #FoodCrisis

#FoodSystems have crossed the planetary boundaries of what is sustainable and are increasingly vulnerable to #ClimateChange. The issues do not lie in the lack of food production, as we now produce more #food than ever, but in the uneven quality of food environments. “The need to transform food systems to meet global sustainable development goals while reducing negative contributions to climate change is more urgent than ever. ” Read directly from ennifer Clapp, Vice Chair of the High Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition (HLPE-FSN) of the UN Committee on World Food Security, and newly elected fellow to the KSLA General section, on inclusive science-supported food policies.

World Food Day 2024 The global ceremony to mark the observance of World Food Day (WFD) 2024 took place at FAO on 16 October, under the theme “Right to Foods. For a Better Life and a Better Future”, underlining the need for universal access to enough diverse, nutritious, affordable, and safe foods. The event took place against a backdrop of increasing global tensions, conflicts, and climate shocks, all of which contribute to the challenge of hundreds of millions facing hunger and billions unable to afford a healthy diet. In his opening remarks to the global ceremony, FAO Director-General QU Dongyu called on “all of us to renew our commitment to building more efficient, more inclusive, more resilient and more sustainable agrifood systems that can nourish the world. Let us remember that there cannot be food security without peace. Peace is a pre-requisite for food security and the right to food is a basic human right.” Pope Francis in his message to the WFD ceremony, called on economic leaders to listen to the demands of those at the end of the food chain and noted that solidarity, justice and a transformation of food systems is needed to ensure that every person has access to nutritious and affordable food. https://lnkd.in/dnqxVx5N

5th Global Food Security Conference: Towards equitable, sustainable and resilient food systems: April 9-12, 2024 (Leuven, Belgium) https://lnkd.in/e7bh2uWt Food system activities are increasing putting pressure on planetary boundaries and the natural resource base which underpins food security for all. They are also accentuating the triple burden of malnutrition for many, and healthier diets derived from more sustainable food systems are needed. The triple ‘Cs’ of climate, covid and conflict, and other recent short-term shocks to the food system, have emerged against a background of longer-term stresses, adding the issue of food system resilience to the already-recognised sustainability agenda. There is therefore an urgent need for food system change both to improve health and environmental outcomes in fairer and more equitable ways, and to enhance resilience to further shocks and stresses. Building on the momentum from the UN Food System Summit and recognizing that the 2030 target year of the Sustainable Development Goals is on the horizon, this 5th Global Food Security Conference will bring together science, business and policy to address this need. Themes include: 1. Towards net zero 2. Enhancing sustainability and resilience of food systems 3. Challenges of the true cost of producing food 4. Models and applied methodologies to study food systems dynamics and trade-offs 5. Ensuring equity and fairness across food systems 6. Food politics, governance and accountability of food system actors 7. Addressing changing dietary demands and inequities in an interconnected world 8. Novel food sources and technologies: Upscaling and acceptability 9. The future of farms, farmers and farming 10. Robust sustainable food systems to reduce losses and food waste #globalfoodsecurity #malnutrition #sustainability #sustainable #resilience #climateresilience #foodsystems #foodsystemstransformation #sustainablefoodsystems #planetaryhealth #planetaryhealthdiet #planetaryboundaries #equity #socialequity #foodequity #foodpolicy #foodwaste #foodwastereduction #foodwasteprevention #dietitians #nutritionists #nutrictionists

In 1979, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) established World Food Day, an annual celebration held on October 16. This global event, known all over the world, will spark a call to action to raise awareness about critical global food issues and advocate for food security. It is not enough to provide a handful of some of food to every person on the planet; also, it must be of high quality, full of nutrients, and free of hazards. It should be a slogan for everyone who wants to receive high-quality food services. There are four facts should always keep in your mind on this special event that are food adulteration, food contamination, sources of food and food wasted. The day emphasises the importance of combating hunger and malnutrition, which continue to affect millions around the world. It also emphasises the importance of reasonable access to healthy, nutritious food and sustainable agricultural practices in order to ensure long-term food security. As the world faces increasingly difficult challenges such as climate change, food waste, and unequal food distribution, World Food Day encourages individuals, governments, and other organisations to collaborate to find solutions. The day's celebration encourages solidarity with those suffering from hunger and malnutrition while advocating for policies that ensure healthy diets and improved nutrition for all. World Food Day aims to inspire collective action to end hunger and create a world where everyone has access to safe, adequate, and nutritious food through community-based initiatives, educational programs, and global campaigns. #WorldFoodDay #EndHunger #FoodForAll #cultivatorphytolab #foodtesting #foodsafety #foodsecurity #testinglab

16th of October is a truly important date as we celebrate the World Food Day. Take a moment to reflect. When was the last time you appreciated and expressed your gratitude for being able to enjoy a dish of fresh food? We all tend to take food for granted and mistakenly assume that we will never run out of it. But, we all know that there are people who lack access to food and water and this problem just keeps getting worse and worse. Food is an inalienable human right and essential for a sustainable future. Sustainable in many ways. Without food, our population will decline, children will become malnourished, and farmers will lose their livelihoods as the fast food industry has replaced fresh, organic food. People will be exposed to increasingly serious diseases as genetically modified food is now common practice in the food production sector. Therefore, we do not simply refer to access to food, but to food security, to pure and fresh food available to all citizens. As an organisation that works towards food security and sustainability, we would like to ask you to share your sustainable food practices, local food suppliers/shops/markets, healthy recipes and anything else you consider a valuable resource in terms of food. #worldfoodday #foodforall #EatSustainably #SupportLocal #FoodSafety #WorldFoodDay2024

Role of Agency in Driving Food Systems Resilience: ABCD framework. Came across this compilation of very insightful views of six researchers on "some of the challenges and opportunities for transforming food systems" - all great inputs, but one that struck me was the ABCD framework to foster food systems resilience. "Given the complex nature of food systems, resilience is still difficult to define, but it is linked to the ability of food systems to deliver desired outcomes in the face of social, economic, and environmental shocks and stressors." To identify and connect critical capacities of food resiliency, a new ABCD framework has been developed which practically translates to - Agency (and means & capacities of the populations to mitigate risks and respond to shocks), - Buffering (creating buffers & resources to rely on in the face of shocks and stressors) - Connectivity (between market actors and segments) - Diversity (enhancing diversity from production to consumption...) Food systems resilience cam be achieved if people's capacities are enhanced in these four dimensions (ABCD), says researcher Bart de Steenhuijsen Piters from Wageningen Economic Research, Wageningen University, Den Haag, Netherlands. #resilience #foodsystems #foodsystemsresilience #nutritionsecurity #foodsecurity

Let’s have an open conversation about the importance of quality food in our daily lives. Often, we take for granted the food we consume, focusing on momentary pleasures while ignoring the fundamental nourishment that sustains us. Consider this: the escalating costs of fuel seldom raise our concern, yet a minor uptick in food prices sends us into a state of distress. Isn’t it time we valued our nutrition—the very fuel for our existence—above temporary luxuries? It’s essential to change our perspective and recognize food as more than mere sustenance; it’s the clean energy that drives our well-being. Envision the health and vitality that comes from feeding ourselves with food that’s not just filling, but truly nourishing. Here’s the reality: producing high-quality food is an expensive endeavor. Farmers invest immense effort and dedication to grow food that’s not only healthy but also aligns with sustainable and eco-friendly practices. Despite this, they often struggle to make ends meet. We should be prepared to pay more for food that’s ethically produced, ensuring end-to-end traceability and environmentally conscious. In doing so, we support the hardworking farmers and secure a future where nutritious food is available for all. It’s time to move beyond the pursuit of the lowest prices and start valuing the true worth of quality food. We must prioritize our health, our communities, and our environment by choosing foods that are as tasty as they are responsibly cultivated. Let’s unite in fostering a world where farmers are esteemed and compensated fairly for their essential work and where not a single farmer commits suicide due to market adversities!! Food is medicine and farmers are natural chemists!! #FarmToTable #SustainableFarming #AgriBusiness #FamilyFarm #HealthyFood #FoodieRevolution #EatLocal #CleanEating #FoodJustice #cleanfood Satyajit Hange Ajinkya Hange Kishore Indukuri
