Starting the week with a reflection on the transformative power of fermentation-enabled foods.💡 Back in November, our Head of Brand & Growth Julian C. Schildknecht spoke with Food Manufacture about the 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐝. 🌱This article highlights why fermentation is more than a trend—it's a solution to some of our planet’s biggest challenges. Fermentation allows us to: 🔹 Produce high-quality protein with minimal resources. 🔹 Reduce the environmental footprint of food production. 🔹 Ensure a resilient, scalable, and sustainable food system. 🎙️ “𝘖𝘶𝘳 𝘨𝘰𝘢𝘭 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦, 𝘴𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥, 𝘧𝘢𝘴𝘵. Microscopic but mighty indeed!💪
💪 Microscopic but mighty! 💪 How can tiny organisms like yeast help develop game-changing new foods through fermentation? Fermentation has been used in food production for thousands of years to preserve foods, create alcoholic drinks, and enhance the nutritional value and bioavailability of foods. Over the past century, the role of fermentation has expanded beyond its historical uses, and it is now applied in diverse fields – innovative food ingredients being a particularly exciting avenue of research. But what exactly is fermentation? And what are the advantages of leveraging it to produce alternative proteins? Check out the carousel 👇 for quick facts on this fascinating method of creating animal-free meat, eggs, dairy, and seafood! Food Fermentation Europe reposted this
💙 Europa-parliament, time to tame the tangle 🧶 As y’all know, it’s all hands on deck right now to get European approval for our cow-free cheese. Even though we’ve all been enjoying cheese with microbial-made ingrediënts for decades (hello, microbial rennet), our casein is considered a novel food and needs to jump through plenty of hoops before it can hit the market. We are all for trying and testing and making 1000% sure that the food in our shops is safe to eat for everyone. However! Everyone involved agrees that there is a silly tangle of red tape obscuring the practical part of approval. Even just waiting to be assessed can take up to a year. And it drives companies away to the USA and Singapore, simply because of timelines. We have impact to make, and we’d love to make it here in Europe. So we need to untangle the tangle. That is why we’re especially stoked when members of the European Parliament step up, roll up their sleeves and help to make it happen. We had EP-member Anna Strolenberg over at the ranch the other day to chat. She’s all for protein diversification. We talked about the key role precision fermentation can play, and how we can coöperate with farmers and the dairy industry so that everybody benefits by building a truly sustainable food future. Anna Strolenberg: “As a member of the European Parliament, I am committed to making our food system more sustainable. I believe in supporting sustainable technologies that help achieve this.” Thanks Anna for cheering on Margaret (she loves that)! Plenty of political pennies to drop and united with Formo and the other precision fermentation cowboys in Food Fermentation Europe, we'll keep dropping 'em! #precisionfermentation #europeanparliament #altprotein #thosevegancowboys

A French parliamentary delegation stopped by Standing Ovation’s labs and got to taste some delicious products made with their precision-fermented #casein! 🥛🧀✨ Our members have been working hard, investing in R&D to push modern #fermentation techniques forward. It’s great to see more countries stepping up and showing leadership to keep up with these innovations.
#Senat #OPECST #AlimentationDurable

The European Commission has recognised #biotechnology and #biomanufacturing as game-changers for Europe’s economic security, sustainability, and global leadership. But here’s the thing: we can’t overlook food production in this equation! At Food Fermentation Europe, we believe fermentation-enabled techniques are key to a resilient and sustainable food system. That’s why we’re urging policymakers to: 👉 Adopt a holistic approach: Include food technologies in the scope of the EU Biotech & Biomanufacturing initiative. 👉 Remove regulatory barriers: Reform the Novel Foods safety assessment to make it more transparent, efficient, and balanced between innovation and precaution. 👉 Support industry scale-up: Establish dedicated financial mechanisms to accelerate #fermentation innovation across the EU. 👉 Align policies: Ensure coherence between this initiative with other food-focused efforts like the EU Protein Strategy. It’s time to power up fermentation and show the world that Europe leads the way in sustainable food innovation. 🚀💚 Read our #CallToAction: https://lnkd.in/dj5_Zpdm
