Today we observe Earth Hour – an annual worldwide movement by the World Wildlife Fund, encouraging everyone to turn off non-essential electric lights from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. Earth Hour spotlights the climate crisis, the loss of nature, and inspires people to act and advocate for change.   Acuitas was recently awarded Climate Positive designation for 2023. As individuals and as a company, we are committed to making change in how we do business so that we can continue to make improvements in this area. At its root system, Aspens are interconnected. It's the way we think about the nonprofit ecosystem working on environmental stewardship, nature, ecology, climate justice, wildlife, marine life, renewable energy and so much more. These groups are on the daily working to make our futures possible, livable, sustainable. Much like an Aspen stand, we're asking every day people, connected by the planet we live on, to take a stand as an environmental future-shaping champion through Earth Gives Day. It is critical that we get more than 2% of giving going to environmental groups with boots on the ground and boats in the ocean. That starts September 6. This challenges us to think about how our actions, no matter how small, can impact marine life and the environment. - The Role of Technology: It’s fascinating to read about how technology is being leveraged to monitor ocean health. Innovations in data collection and analysis are helping researchers understand marine ecosystems better, paving the way for informed conservation strategies. - Community Involvement: Another compelling point made is the power of local communities in conservation efforts. Grassroots movements illustrate that people can make a difference and promote sustainable practices to protect their local marine environments. - A Call to Action: We often feel small in the grand scheme of things, but every action counts. The Restore Nature Now protest filled my heart with joy. Not just because my face was covered in leafy face paint and spent several hours dancing at the drumbeat and chanting, lending my voice to nature - even though that alone would have made it a very happy day 🍃🧑🏼🎤🥁. On my way to Park Lane in the morning, I was slightly nervous, not sure if many people would come out and march, especially as the sky was cloudy and the light drizzle felt somehow ominous. Shortly after, my nervousness turned into excitement as I took part in a wholesome and beautiful demonstration that united thousands of people who not only CARE, but also are determined to make policy makers care too 👊. In a world where our political leaders choose greed and personal gains over general well-being, we choose to smile to each other and fully display our beautiful colours, together. Even though we’re rightfully furious and sometimes, understandably, fall prey to despair. We still choose to chant and support each other. And it’s this that will make us prevail. That we will continue doing it not only for our benefit but for the benefit of all. Those that we love deeply, and those that we don’t know (yet). Those that agree with us and those that hate our opposing perspective. Those that are not here yet, and those who can’t speak for themselves. The world’s ideological polarisation comes from our inability to understand we are part of something way way bigger. But when we have a glimpse of clarity, there’s no coming back.
