Last Friday, Elena Kodey, the Head of Leadership Development at Do Well Do Good, led an insightful session on viewing feedback as valuable data rather than personal criticism. Our NextGen women leaders gained insights on how to deliver feedback objectively and constructively and how to receive it with an open, non-defensive mindset.
We look forward to seeing our participants apply these key takeaways to foster growth and professional development!🚀

Today I look back on my journey as a partner of the Leadership Newark Inc Class of 2003, I am filled with great pride and gratitude.
Like the most recent incoming class, I had the privilege of navigating SIMSOC or the simulated society experience, a cornerstone of the program that profoundly shaped our understanding of leadership and community dynamics.
In this exercise, I was part of a group that represented the more affluent or wealthy part of society. In a similar experience at Lead New Jersey, I was part of a simulated society that represented the most underserved portion of society (in fact, I was designated to represent the poorest person in the room).
Reflecting on my own experience, I vividly remember the challenges and insights gained from being both a green person and a red person. These roles pushed me to step out of my comfort zone, embrace diverse viewpoints, and develop a deeper empathy for others.
As a green person, I learned the importance of advocacy and the power of collective action. It taught me to listen actively and to champion the voices of those who might otherwise go unheard. Conversely, my time as a red person highlighted the complexities of leadership and the necessity of balancing authority with compassion.
Today, these experiences continue to shape my approach to leadership. They remind me that true leadership is not just about guiding others but also about fostering an inclusive environment where every voice is valued.
The lessons from Leadership Newark have been instrumental in my career, particularly in my work within healthcare, public and community relations and community outreach.
To the Leadership Newark Class of 2026, I encourage you to embrace every moment of this journey. The skills and insights you gain here will be invaluable as you go on to make a positive impact in our community.

Recently at our Global Leadership Summit, I had a valuable session with my leadership team to reflect on the past year's successes and challenges. We focused on identifying the highlights and lowlights, emphasizing key learnings, and outlining growth opportunities for the upcoming year.
During our discussions, several noteworthy points stood out:
- Celebrating successful collaborations with other teams
- Learning from triumphs and challenges to implement changes for a more successful year ahead
- Sharing talent transformations and their impact on team outcomes
Embracing self-reflection and team evaluation is crucial for team leaders and leveraging past learnings helps us pave the way for a more prosperous year ahead.

📣 Exciting Announcement! 📣
Throughout my career and during my master’s program, I noticed a significant gap in leadership development programs for women in the beverage and hospitality industries. Inspired by my experiences, I created Rooted Leadership, a comprehensive learning course offered through Rooted Connections! 🎉
The program is accessible to all, aiming to educate women about their leadership style through a process of self-inquiry with outward application.
The program includes these powerful modules:
• Who Are You? - Discover your unique leadership style and strengths.
• How Did You Get Here? - Learn your habits as a leader though reflecting on your own path.
• The Fear Factor - Overcome obstacles and build resilience.
• The Power of Five - Master the Art of intentional networking to achieve your goals.
• Pentimento and Leadership - Leverage the skills and insights gained from this course to advance your career.
My goal is for women to realize we have power to shape the industry’s future, and our comprehensive leadership development program is designed to unlock your potential, fuel your influence, and leave an unforgettable mark.
