In 2023, AMD reported revenues of $22.68Billion with Lisa Su being one of just 26 self-made US female billionaires 🇺🇸 Despite all these accolades, we know from experience that women & women of colour are often under-estimated, regardless of their seniority 🤷🏽♀️ This video from the 2018 Shanghai F1 shows a Formula 1 TV host engaging Lisa Su in an inane dialogue including: 1️⃣ Asking her if she can speak English & denoting her a random person 2️⃣ Being surprised when she says her company is a sponsor of Ferrari 3️⃣ Expressing consternation when he notes that she has VIP access everywhere (!) This is a billionaire example of the #womeninmalefields meme. Would this TV presenter have asked the same questions from male billionaire Jensen Huang, CEO of the leading chip manufacturer NVIDIA, who is, incidentally, a distant relative of Lisa Su? Probably not 🏎 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗽 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 & 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝗮 𝗦𝘂 𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. She doesn't drop the CEO card & merely notes that she is 'with AMD'. By exuding self-confidence & charisma, Lisa Su carries herself like the self-made billionaire & tech leader that she is 💪🏽 -- ♻ Re-share if this resonated with you. 👩🏽⚕️ Follow Dr Fiona Pathiraja-Møller for more. #womenintech #femaleCEO #womeninbusiness #womeninmalefields
AMD shares have soared 3700% since Lisa Su took over in 2014, surpassing Intel in market capitalization—truly impressive. This video highlights the biases that persist and the need to keep challenging them.
I feel very uncomfortable listening to this interview. But what a composed response! Wow!
Dr Fiona Pathiraja-Møller, Loved the reminder of how women in leadership still face bias.
This is painful to watch. Such poise and grace to say "I'm with AMD" and not say what we are probably all thinking! It's embarrassing to see Lisa Su being underestimated in this way, but absolutely wonderful to see her named CEO of the year. Huge congratulations to her.
Lisa Su is proof that real leadership is about how you carry yourself, even in the face of bias.
This story reminds us why representation in all fields, especially male-dominated ones, is so important.
Goodness me, the bias here is so obvious isn’t it! Thank you for highlighting and calling it out.
Anna Lygia C. Rego , I agree with, Prof. Anna Lygia, of course! As It seems to me, the main point in this event, is that all of us need seek to reach this emotional stage to face and imeddiately respond to situations like this one. She was successful, as she was prepared. Unfortunately, most potential victims are not prepared enough. Self-knowledge, and perhaps good therapy sessions, are path that is not within everyone's reach.
Lisa Su handles this with such class - proof that success speaks louder than stereotypes. What a woman 🔥
